With the help of a map, try to name the largest cities by city proper population which were founded by the Dutch. In addition, try to name the other cities on the map which are "honorable mentions".
Very interesting quiz but you seem to be going back and forth between metro population and city-proper.
New York is clearly metropolitan area but Recife is only city proper. I think Utrecht metro area (656,342 per Wikipedia) would beat out a number of the options here.
Great concept with interesting answers but I think it needs to be reviewed with regards to the above.
Indeed. The Dutch established a trading post near a native village, but abandoned it. Later, the English founded a town that grew to be the Paramaribo of today.
Unlike Accra, for example, the Dutch trading post didn't became part of the city, because they left it. So I also didn't count it as 'partially founded'.
It doesn't deserve even an honourable mention, but the Dutch presence on Dejima, (at the time) off the coast of Nagasaki, is a pretty fascinating story.
Oi what's with these honourable mentions? I haven't heard of any of these cities and I thought the quiz was just a straight list. Would it not make more sense to have the biggest cities only?
Good quiz :)
