Darn it.. missed one. Iran. Most people probably dont realize that Italy and Sweden don't even make the top 20 anymore. Production has shifted to cheaper areas.
I was going to say the same thing. Very hard to believe that Sweden (Volvo, Saab) and Italy (Fiat, Ferrari) produce fewer cars than Slovakia (?). Who'd have known?
Sweden's manufacturing has moved abroad with the sale of Volvo and I think Saab quit completely a year or two ago. Labour in Sweden is just too expensive. Ferrari is a luxury car, so they don't make that many of it. Not sure about what's behind Fiat..
I got all of them this time but for some reason blanked on Korea until the last 30 seconds. I was surprised again to see Slovakia, having forgotten about this comment from two months ago. :P
I only knew Slovakia because we learned about it in Geography a while back. A lot of car manufacturers started producing in Slovakia due to the cheap labour costs, as well as how close it is to countries that buy the most cars (e.g. Germany, France, UK) :)
..and I know Ferrari doesn't make a lot of cars, but I've still seen far more of them on the road than I have of any Slovak brands. Also the point was more that Italy's car manufacturing is extremely well-known.
well Slovakia doesnt have any brand. but Since 2007 Slovakia has been the world's largest producer of cars per capita. Peugeot Citroën's in Trnava, Kia Motors' in Žilina, Jaguar Land Rover in Nitra, and Volkswagen in Bratislava.
My personal rule of thumb on Jetpunk is that if a quiz is giving me trouble, guess Turkey. Even if it is a quiz about celebrities or mathematics, I figure it can't hurt of guess Turkey. And so often it turns out to be the missing answer.
Lamborghini and Ferrari are produced is small quantity. Only Koenigsegg is produced in Sweden, Volvo and Saab are now produced in India and other parts of the world
FIAT (which already included Alfa Romeo, Lancia and other luxury brands) in 2014 bought Chrysler (which had previously incorporated JEEP) creating the holding company FCA, currently the world’s seventh-largest auto maker.
So guys, it's not just about introducing FIAT 500 in the US...
Zastava Yugo is a Serbian car, word Yugo is from Yugoslavia. I see that you are dumb, so I have to say that Yugoslavia doesn't exist. It's Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovenia now
A bit surprising to me that Mexico produces so many cars and yet at the same time I don't think I've ever seen a Mexican car before in the USA and can't name a single brand.
They are "American" brands that are made in Mexico. The brand name means nothing in the 21st century. "Mexican" beer is made in America and "American" cars are made in Mexico and every other combination.
Yeah, I guessed it based on American brands being manufactured in Mexico primarily. Probably influenced by Trump's constant complaining about it. I mean, if Trump says it, it must be true...
This quiz is about where the vehicles are produced, not where they are sold. Toyota alone sells almost as many cars as all US brands together, then theres Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Suzuki, Mitsubishi etc.
So yeah, to me it is very surprising that there are more cars produced in the US than in Japan.
Auto industry is very export-oriented in Japan (as well as in South Korea), few plants from Japanese brands abroad. Labour costs are maintained low due to a high level of automation in the process.
China's lead is insane and I have a feeling it's going to get a lot bigger. Some of the new Chinese EV's are going to obliterate the US/Europe market unless there are major tariffs. Chinese manufacturing is just so cheaper and more efficient.
Missed both Czech Republic and Slovakia even tho I'm Czech lmao. I must have underestimated our car industry, would never guess our two small countries would score so high
