It's not quizzing, it's art. I don't know what to write in my comment... There are too many things to say about this amazing idea, but I can find words. Huge congratulations!
if you get a heavy coast line country it takes 30 seconds just to render. animations either need to go faster or more time is needed to even come close at 16. Denmark literally took 25 seconds to finish
Which country takes 30 seconds? Denmark doesn't literally take 25 seconds, it's about 18, but was aware that it's slow and hard to guess early. Going to have a look at it.
I'm still staring at my screen thinking, "Did That Just Happen?" Once again you have produced a ridiculously fun and enjoyable quiz! The 26 Noms already shows!
Just when you think you've seen it all and every new quiz just looks like any other you've done, there comes along some freakin' genius with an idea that mixes all the stuff great JP quizzes are made of, the ability to implement so brilliantly, and eventually produces that!
I had such great 1:30', smiling and giggling thanks to the intensely concentrated, geeky fun all JP-heads are after!
Man, no exaggeration, you've got to be one of the most creative and hard working users on this site. I don't think I could ever be able to replicate some of the quizzes you've been able to do. Hats off to you!
I find it hard to believe making such a quiz is even possible... wow!! a small suggestion: maybe after the shape is fully designed you can write the initial of the answer after a few seconds
This is really awesome, but I think another minute could've helped, I don't think you should have your time eaten away by the animation. I barely got it with 5 seconds left to spare.
The point of the quiz is that the animation eats away at the time, so that guessing early from an incomplete drawing gains you valuable seconds. If I add time to account for the drawing then it just becomes a normal name the country shape quiz.
If you got it with 5 seconds to spare then the time is just about right :)
For the top takers on the site that may be true, but for the vast majority of the quiz takers, I agree this may be a little too short. I think another 30-60 seconds will really be your sweet spot for the largest number of people.
But a very impressive quiz all the same, very well executed and a lot of fun. Kudos!
Would like more time though- a lot does depend on the countries that come up but the last one I did I didn't have enough time to see all countries drawn. I took one guess and if I didn't know it I moved on so wasn't spending long at all on any country. Just some of them took a while to draw so I never had the opportunity to view them all
I have this error every time I try to take this quiz, where it looks like every country is drawn at once - I have tried refreshing, clearing cachce and using other browsers, but no such luck
This truly is absolutely amazing, probably one of the best quizzes on this site! Overtired, your quizzes have really opened doors to quiz ideas that I think most of us on this site wouldn't have even thought possible. I'm very much looking forward to see this get featured (which will probably happen very very soon) :)
I’m simply going insane. You’re insane. I gave one of my most celebratory comments to Find the Mystery Country, and yet no words escape me. JetPunk has seen animation, but not like this. Thank you for advancing the site like this.
I’m in absolute awe of your creations. I’m ditching previous opinions.
You are my new favorite quiz maker. This quiz is my new favorite.
But of course, I may not leave this part out…as Wadzee takes over YouTube, assist @Overtired in taking over JetPunk…and like Wadzee says…
I do Jetpunk primarily for entertainment, but also in the hope of learning stuff. This quiz absolutely ticks both those boxes. First time I tried it I was terrible, but with each effort I'm improving and hope to get full marks before long as I recognise the country shapes better. Nominated and would like to see more like this.
Most, but not all. I included as many as I could without exceeding the maximum file size. I chose countries with distinctive shapes primarily, though left out some with long and complicated coastlines that took up file space and drawing time. And yes, most island nations are too small and far apart to be included.
I do have a way to add more countries now, though it would make the quiz harder so not sure about it.
Great concept, but will add my support to those requesting more time. The drawing is just too slow if the randomization results in a quiz with a lot of countries with intricate borders. Sometimes impossible to even get close to the end even if you guess early with each. Don't know what the point of the quiz is if it won't allow you to actually take a stab at each question because it's too busy drawing.
The point of the quiz is to see how many countries you can get in the short amount of time by guessing countries as they are being drawn.
Yes, it's possible to get a series of trickier countries, though those with more intricate borders can also offer more detail to guess with. Randomized quizzes usually have the chance for an unlucky hand, but it's a short quiz and you can have another shot at it.
Adding too much time or increasing the draw speed turns the quiz into just another "guess the country shape" quiz and undermines the whole point. So I am being very careful about increasing the time limit. Currently a quarter of people are getting all 16 on their first try, and plenty of people have times well under two minutes.
If you get 10 or more I'd say that's a good score. (Everyone doesn't need to win a gold medal!) If there was a game mode that didn't require a total number of answers to be set I'd use it. I nearly made it 50... but I could just imagine the complaints... :)
There's now half a minute more than the original two. I'll keep an eye on the stats, but highly doubt I'll add more. I'd prefer to make a separate quiz with extra time than undermine the point and the challenge of this one.
The whole point of the quiz is that you have to be able to name at least 3 or 4 countries before they are fully completed. I would say to minimally increase if so.
Is there a way to see the answers with the pictures after the quiz? I'm really trying to get to 16 but it's tricky to learn if you miss a few and can't remember exactly what one of them looked like.
I appreciate the extra time, you could probably add a minute more and I'd still struggle though tbh, just not my thing it seems. If there's one I don't know that's 10-15 seconds wasted... Infuriatingly addictive!
Brilliant quiz!! Thank you, But soooo frustrating! Either got one in the middle I just couldn't get or ran out of time on the last one. Will keep trying for the 16
Is it possible to cycle through the drawings after time runs out to see the shape of the country with its name? This would help in learning the ones that look kind of non-descript.
I've played about 30 times, and didn't come across Canada, Indonesia, Philippines, etc. Are these countries excluded because of the large number of islands?
Yep, countries with too many islands are a bit of a pain to make - joining them all together into one line and then individually masking out all the joins - plus some other issues with getting them to draw in a good order.
I did make Canada with a fair few of its islands but the coast is so long and complicated that the draw time was excessive and it took up a lot of file space. I tried simplifying it but it didn't look that good. I might try again at some point.
The artistry of this quiz, as many have already said, is unsurpassed. But here's another plead for more time. I am a geography enthusiast and haven't been able to get anywhere close to finishing. I'd like to see what I could do with at least four minutes.
It's really great, how a small change (to be honest, to make the quiz was not at all a small effort, but a big one) of an existing quiz (shapes of countries) can make such a fantastic new experience!
Amazing quiz, what a great idea! My only feedback would be relating to skipping answers. For PC users you can easily press the DOWN or TAB key. For many smartphones this is not possible. Can you please include a skip button or any other solution for smartphone users?
No. No no no no no. I’m without words right now. We already thought was impossible do something better, or like the Spinning Globe by Crem, but now, he, Overtired, full us of the opposite: animation. I can’t stop playing this quiz, and I’m... what to say with it? How many praises we can say? Marvelous, insane, amazing, gorgeous, funny, beautiful, divine, brilliant, wonderful... DAMN! I’M WITHOUT PRAISES! I really want to learn how you did it. All of us want to learn, this, before you get overtired lol! You make us happy with your presence and amazing quizzes. A shame, that I can’t nominate it anymore. We don’t know anymore who is the SVG Emperor. Is IAB? Is Jiao? Is Pandora? Is Dug? Is many I’m forgetting at this moment? I know that Overtired can’t be a candidate of SVG Emperor. Why? Because these aren’t SVGS. Are games, culture, and lifestyle. A new subscriber for you! I need to stop now, because I won’t have more praises, and characters for write. Just be knowing: this is amazing.
more time please! some of the countries take a while to "load" so more time would be useful :) I know the earlier you guess is part of the challenge but still some take a WHILE! love the idea
I would also like to know how to make it skip it I am unable to guess one. Do I have to give up and start over each time I come to a country's shape I am unfamiliar with?
Given the tight time constraints, it would be nice to have a quick-to-use "skip" button. Other than that, it's perfect. As good as it gets. Brilliant. Addictive.
I would suggest making the animations quicker if you aren't going to increase the time limit. There is a lot of time spent just waiting for the animation to run its course.
You have made me spellbound
Nommed and 5 stars :D

Maybe 4 minutes?

Btw, my own country was the first one that I got! What are the odds of that happening! Xd
Just one remark: Honduras outline is a mirror image.
My first attempt failed because I couldn't figure out how to make it skip once I got stuck (using an iPad). Suggestions anyone?
If you have a keyboard, Hit TAB or DOWN to skip.
Addictive.

Also don't tell anyone but me

You should patent this and sell this idea to the Quizmaster!

ok
I like this quiz among the best, because it is hard to "cheat" with a search engine.
Please can you do more continents
Would love the challenge of oceania especiallly
Nearly but not quite enough time for me to complete it - which is a big factor in making it so addictive.
Well done and thank you.
