Extended Royal Family Quiz

This quiz for British Royal Family nerds expands on the family members included in Quizmaster's Royal Family Quiz by adding more extended and deceased members of the Queen's family.
Simply type the family member's first name; titles are unnecessary
Some names will fill in more than one answer.
Members of the line of succession to the British throne are indicated by their rank in parentheses
The exact people who are included by the term "British Royal Family" is a matter of debate. At it's strictest it includes only the members of what the media sometimes calls "the Firm," or the Queen, her consort, the Prince of Wales, his spouse, his sons, their spouses, and his grandchildren. Most people agree it includes any direct descendants of the Queen, and any others referred to as "His/Her Royal Highness." Less often, direct descendants of the Queen's sister and cousins are included. The widest uses include other living descendants of former monarchs ranging as far back to Queen Victoria. Obviously, my quiz uses a very loose definition of the term.

The Duke of Edinburgh is Philip, with one 'l'.

You're right. That's funny, in all my years of being obsessed with the royal family I never noticed his name has only one "l".

Queen's Uncle-in-Law

1900 - 1979

Louis, The Earl Mountbatten of Burma

Why ?

His vife was Edwina Ashley, who was not related to the Queen

+1
Level 44

Correct, Edwina Ashley was not related to the Queen in her own right. Lord Mountbatten, however, was. His sister is Princess Alice of Battenberg (from which the name Mountbatten is derived), who is Prince Phillips mother. Thus he is the Queen's Uncle-in-Law.

That's not all. His mother was Princess Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine, whose mother was Princess Alice, whose parents were Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, thereby making him a distant relation of the Queen whether she had married Prince Phillip or not.

He is included in this list but not his siblings or parents because he was essentially the adopted father of Prince Phillip and thus merited inclusion for the same reason that I included Prince Phillip's parents and sisters.

He is included. His last name is properly spelled "Laurence." I will include "Lawrence" as an accepted answer as well.

Made some updates. Primarily I added the children of the Queen's cousins because they are in the line of royal succession, and therefore in my opinion warrant inclusion in this list. I'm also excited about the upcoming royal wedding so even though it's a few months early I went ahead and added Prince Harry's fiancee Meghan Markle. I will update when they are married and her new royal title is announced (they will probably become formally known as the Duke and Duchess of something like William and Catherine).

I love this quiz - but I think there's some sort of error as I am unable to input Estella Taylor in any shape or form, thus can only get 112 :( It makes me sad! I notice NOBODY has got this correct so I think it may be a glitch... could we fix it, please? :) Thank you!

Thank you for taking my quiz! You're right, that was my mistake, I never caught it when I tested the quiz. I've now fixed it so that "Estella Taylor" (and some other variations on the name) will work. Thanks for pointing that out!

Estella still isn't being accepted. I tried as Estelle and Estella, though admit I didn't try with the surname as nothing else required a surname. Could you please take another look? Thanks!

Albert, Leopold and Louis Windsor are Catholics and so are not in the Line of Succession so the numbers after their names should be removed.

Princess Eugenie’s Husband Jack Brooksbank is not included in the same category as the Queen’s grandchildren-in-law. He married Eugenie in late 2018.

I love this quiz and I'm glad that Estella Taylor is now corrected, but one small point about your recent update for Harry and Meghan's son - It won't accept Archie or derivatives as it requires Mr. Archie and of course Mr. isn't his name it's a title. Please can you correct - I was SO close to completing this update!

Thanks. :)
