After some consideration, and the fact that my views on the whole transgender discussion has changed somewhat over the years, Elliot Page, formerly known as Ellen Page who was previously nominated for Best Actress for "Juno," will be moved over to this quiz and will no longer be on the other version of this quiz when I update both quizzes in 2025. This is to keep things consistent with the whole male and female separation theme.
I created both of these quizzes before Page came out as transgender at the end of 2020, and have gone back and forth on deciding how to handle it before finally deciding to move him to this quiz. I apologize for not making this decision sooner, but better late than never I suppose.
Again, Elliot Page will be added to this quiz for the next update in 2025. Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed the quiz!
Great quiz! It turned into a game of "name every actor that comes to mind" for me, and even so I only got 131. For some reason I have a feeling I'll do better on the actress quiz; gonna try that one next.
I got Sam Waterston solely because I love him on Law & Order, and I was guessing any name I could think of. I didn't even know he was in movies. Some surprising omissions too. The fact that Jim Carrey wasn't even nominated for Man on the Moon or the Truman Show is dispiriting. Also can't believe that Christopher Lee didn't get nominated even once in a prolific career spanning seven decades.
Definitely agree about Jim Carrey. I would also add Eternal Sunshine to his list of performances that deserved a nomination. I know people like to use his "over-the-top" style of acting to discredit him but Eddie Murphy's done plenty of wacky things in his career and he still earned a nomination.
I'm also surprised that Donald Sutherland wasn't nominated for Ordinary People, even though pretty much everyone else in that movie was.
Funny enough, DiCaprio was the most guessed even before I put a picture up. It's actually the reason why I picked him when I decided to use pictures, although the one you see now was picked by the Quizmaster.
Great quiz. Seems impossible that with all the great pictures he was in Joseph Cotten never got a single nomination. Just ain't right. Eli Wallach should be on here at least once, too. And John Turturro.
Congrats to 15.5% of takers who got all 480 answers right. They should be proud of their immense knowledge and the fact they absolutely, positively, undoubtedly didn't cheat...
Thank you to everyone who’s taken this quiz so far. I’ve been thinking about updating this every two years from now on since it’s such a massive quiz. There were a lot of first-time nominees this year which is why I decided to update it for this season instead of the next. If that’s okay with the Quizmaster and everyone else, I’ll return to this quiz and its female version in 2025.
He probably could have been nominated for Quiz Show but the Academy decided to nominate Paul Scofield that year instead. The only other possible contenders I can think of are Miller's Crossing and Barton Fink.
Couple of minor spelling issues, luckily none got in the way:
Albert Bassermann
Lawrence Tibbett
Terence (one r) Stamp
I would have gone the other way on Elliot Page as the awarded Oscar was for "Best Actress," but I can see where you're coming from with the title of the quiz. Thanks for the challenge!
