In a famous episode of the TV show Seinfeld called ‘the Bubble Boy,’ George is playing trivial pursuit with an arrogant, obnoxious ‘boy’ who lives in a clean room (and goes unseen the whole episode). When the gloating ‘kid’ (he is deliberately voiced by one of the older writers to lessen sympathy for him) is about to win, the question is about who ruled Spain and the answer is ‘Moors.’ But the card has a misprint on it and says ‘Moops,’ and because the kid’s been so rude and obnoxious, George chooses to take the position that the kid is wrong and that, since the card says ‘Moops,’ it is the only acceptable answer. This leads to a huge fight.
It’s one of the best episodes of maybe the best sitcom of all-time.
In french, we call them the Mogols (or Moghols), so I had to check the english spelling (which is not cheating in my opinion). They are of course related with the Mongols.
At first I was reading "beheaded" as a verb and couldn't figure out how you got an M out of Elizabeth. (Mean Queen?) Finally it clicked that it was an adjective instead. Duh. Only missed Mughal. Kept trying Mongol. Duh again.
Still, it's not the best question since it's an unofficial name whose use is not widespread in all the world. This question would be much better placed under the "T" questions.
I know it's clearly stated above but I must also say that I absolutely adore that 'moops' is accepted not only in this quiz but whenever it seems to come up here on Jetpunk. It's the little things.
Now that they're not officially called "Mormons" anymore, perhaps the clue should be rewritten to read "Common name for the religious movement founded by Joseph Smith"
I just took a quiz today that called the movement Mormonism. Thus, it's still called that. Though more accurate would be to call it Smithism, as Mormon is a fictional character. So it's also accurate to say they are called Smithians. As I just called them that.
Or, and you know, this is my problem, there are variations on the spelling of Maddison. Apparently this one is Madison, and it doesn't accept any other spelling. This may be logical for Murkins, but not for people who are from the normal part of the world.
A lot of the comments are saying that the questions need to be more specific...the quiz is about things that start with M! Which author of the Communist Manifesto had a name with M? The "official" (but still less common) name for Mormons does not start with M. Calm down, people.
17/20 not bad, i knew i knew magna carta and the moors but my brain just couldnt get past thinking of the doomsday book and the umayyid calipahte, even tho neither start with M, and ive not even heard of the bill of rights
It’s one of the best episodes of maybe the best sitcom of all-time.
And I'm literally from Manchester and didn't get it! I know we have a heavy industrial past but didn't know we were the first!
