I bet the reason 5% didn't get Venezuela is because, like me, they misspelled it and assumed it fell outside of the range of the Andes since it's so far north.
The answers are in alphabetical order and there's only 13 countries in South America. Easy enough to get via process of elimination regardless of skill.
One would think that since the Andes mountains are confined to the Western coast of South America Panama, being formerly part of Colombia, would take precedence over Venezuela, which is way North and East.
The Andes range has several ripples (technical term?) and one in Colombia does indeed veer towards Panama... but it peters out well before it gets there.
The range arguably continues through Venezuela and becomes the lesser Antilles.
I can see what you mean as a pure guess as only about 5 percent of Venezuela is in the Andes. But far East? Bolivia stretches farther east than Venezuela, and they are on the same latitude.
Chimborazo, 20,561 ft, inactive volcano, the furthest point from the Earth's center.
Cotopaxi, 19,347 ft, is the tallest active volcano in the world.
The range arguably continues through Venezuela and becomes the lesser Antilles.
