Madagascar should no doubt be accepted. In fact it's more right than Maldives because Maldives is a group of islands rather than one island nation.

The word should be "historic", not "historical". Splitting linguistic hairs, I know, but the meanings are indeed different.

I don't care if New Guinea belongs in Asia, Australia or Oceania or if Cyprus is part of Asia or Europe, but the Mariana Trench certainly isn't in Asia.

The Mariana trench is right next to Asia. It's on the edge of the Philippine sea! Are you saying we consider the Mariana trench to be in North America?

Actually though, it is quite close to Palau and Micronesia so I'm not so sure now.

The Mariana Trench is in Oceania. Just because Oceania borders Asia does not make it part of Asia. Europe also border Asia; does that make Europe part of Asia?
+1
Level 73
Dec 9, 2017
I mean, that's a not the same thing because the border between "Europe" and "Asia," while theoretically geographical, is actually kind of made up. Eurasia is one big landmass. And also, he is questioning which continent one place is on instead of whether one whole continent is on another continent. It's more like debating whether Yekaterinburg is an Asia or Europe (although admittedly that's not a great comparison either.)

Sometimes you have one of those days.. I had never heard of Erbil, read the word in a novel yesterday. And it shows up here. Also I kept (semi) dreaming (drifting in and out of sleep, with the word keep resonating in my mind) about the word Manchuria last night. I had heard of it before, but if I am honest, I did not really not what it referred to. And that one is also on this quiz!

I wonder if other coincidences await me today.
