I cross the border between Saudi and Bahrain at least twice a week... though it's confined to a small island there is a land border. I think most of the time it's just not counted, though. and I think technically the entire island is within the water of Saudi Arabia.. but Bahrain controls its side of the island and I think Bahraini laws apply there. The McDonald's on their side does not close for prayer times like the one on the Saudi side does.
Crazy. I've never looked at Bahrain on Google Maps before but it looks like almost every mile of coastline is manipulated or engineered in some way. There are a bunch of trippy features. Have you ever been out to here?
I have. You should look up a time-lapse satellite view of the country some time it has gotten substantially larger as they keep expanding their artificial coastline.
From what I could figure out from this document http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/62003.pdf , the island should be completely situated in Bahraini waters.
I thought you were joking at first, but they're actually doing it! I guess oil magnates solve a diplomatic crisis by physically separating neighboring countries.
I completely agree that bridges count as borders, because, think about it, a border and a bridge both have border crossings, and you can cross them (at least most of the time).
