its easy to learn:

BMW = bavarian motor company = Bayrisches Motoren Werk

and the capital of bavaria is Munich

I would think "Olympic terrorism" is the bigger clue here to Munich....

the bigger clue than one of the biggest car producers in the world? May I refer: Germany = violence = N*ZI?!?!?!? Please!!! Oh, and we would have to add "Bratwurst" and Sauerkraut", of course! -_-

Yes, definitely for a cultured person (not sh*ting on car people, I'm one of them). There are a lot of cities known for car manufacturing. There is only one city where "olympic terrorism" ocured.

I bet that if this quiz gets updated, there will be a new clue for a certain city - "A Game of Thrones" (:

I'd call the clue "Kings Landing".

Should allow Ragusa as an alternative name of Dubrovnik.
+5
Level 69
Mar 5, 2016
Obviously it's up to each quizmaster, but generally only common and/or current names for places are accepted. Dubrovnik (along with the rest of Croatia, especially coastal) has been under so many different rulerships, that it has had way too many former names. It hasn't been Ragusa since WW I, and I've never heard it used interchangeably for Dubrovnik (not even the summer I was there). (Long-lasting of course was the independent city-state, the Republic of Ragusa, but that spanned an area larger than just Dubrovnik).

Tell me, who calls it Bruxelles who actually speaks English? Just say the obvious answer, it's not hard

I'm all for accepting answers in English and the relevant native language, and I really don't understand some people who aggressively insist that only the English answer should ever be valid. What does it take away from you if we also accept "Bruxelles"?
+2
Level 79
Sep 8, 2021
I'm all for accepting answers in the native language and forget the faintly ridiculous idea of "translating" them into English.
+1
Level 81
Jan 17, 2022
It takes nothing away but it does add increased work for the quiz maker who will then be under pressure to include type-ins for every other language.
+2
Level 81
Jan 17, 2022
It's also not ridiculous to use English on English-language quizzes on a primarily English-language website. Though I'm also not against accepting "Bruxelles," it's kind of ridiculous to assert otherwise. Would it make sense to accept all of the English-language names for answers on the French-language version of these quizzes?
+1
Level 42
Feb 4, 2023
Yes they very obviously should accept the english names in french quizzes, just like they should always accept them in all languages in all quizzes.

Would be nice to see some love for other European countries (17/22 in 'Western Europe'). This lopsidedness makes the quiz unnecessarily easy. Some ideas: Sarajevo, Istanbul, Valletta, Pilsen, Warsaw...
