i'm guessing that your vision of the caribbean, much like mine, was pretty screwed. I had envisioned cuba to be north of hispaniola, but in fact it is actually northwest, the dominican republic is actually quite a distance away.
Same here: I've learned all the names of the Pacific island nations, but I haven't yet learned where they are. Whenever a quiz requires one I invariably have to type them all!
One is on the other side of the island. Haiti is more west, and Dominican Republic is more east, so Haiti is closer, with the other countries being closer than DR too.
Yep, I think a change is needed. Measuring from the islands northwest of Cabo Cruz, I was able to get a measurement of 89.84 mi. / 144.58 km to Cayman Brac. If those islands don't count, then nothing should change for Cuba, as the closest measurement I got to Turks and Caicos was 145.91 mi. / 234.82 km.
Then what about the Cayman Islands? I'm believe Cayman Brac is closer to Cuba than Mexico or even the US is (it's a few hundred meters further away than Jamaica).
Denmark owns an island called Bornholm, which is pretty much directly north of the Polish city formerly called Stettin (I can't pronounce the polish name)
Apparently, Quizmaster's claim is that Daffy Duck most certainly was NOT a Wizard! Or, you took the quiz so soon after it being reset that the system didn't have enough data to assign point values.
Very nice quiz! Just a question I couldn't answer: are Ceuta and Melilla really overseas territories? I had the felling that they had the same status as any other autonomous communities of Spain, which would make the "0 km" black instead of red
Joedimaggio, have you been hoodwinked by Spanish propaganda? They try to make out that Gibraltar is a British colony, illegally occupying what should by rights be Spanish territory, whereas Ceuta and Melilla are quite different - integral parts of Spain over which Morocco has no legitimate claim.
For those arguing that the Cayman Islands and/or Turks and Caicos are closer to Cuba, which would then make the United Kingdom fall on that list, they are actually much farther away than the others. The Cayman Islands lies 437 km away from Cuba and Turks and Caicos is 618 km away. Significantly farther away than Mexico, Haiti, and others.
They recently agreed to split an island in the channel between Greenland and Canada between them, where its status before had been "claimed entirely by both countries" creating a land border (of sorts) on a bit of uninhabited frozen rock
I've been fooling with the map and the distance i get from Equatorial guinea to Nigeria is in the 300 km range, rather than the 95 km stated in the quizz. What am I missing here?
1. Guam (US) is 1,226km from what I could find away from Palau. This would make it closer than Malaysia. If this isn't counted, East Timor is just barely closer than Malaysia at 1,340km away.
2. Cayman Islands (UK) is 141km from Cuba which would be closer than Mexico which is 196km.
3. There is a Danish island called "bornholm" which is 103km away from Poland, putting it closer than norway.
Greenland (part of the Kingdom of Denmark) actually has a short land border with Canada on Hans Island in the high Arctic, which was split between both countries in 2022.
Aren't they on the SAME island (Hispaniola)? How, then could
you have one and not the other as closest to Cuba?
I just type and pray.

Any chance you could make a version that randomizes- a different set of countries every time?
I'd be even more addicted to this site...
