Gah!! I gave up on South America way too easily. I put in Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and Chile. I got none of those so I moved on...

Anyone who guessed Peru was just listing countries for a professional typist to enter. Or, 28% of people taking this quiz are Chinese Peruvian.

There is actually a lot of Asian communities in Peru. For instance, Alberto Fujimori who was Peru's dictator for ten years was from Japanese origin. So, it would have been possible to guess Peru.

Venezuela, however, would apply more to your comment

I surprisingly managed to guess them all. I got Peru because as Dragenum says it has Asian communities, and I got Venezuela because I saw a documentary on the country a few of years ago talking about the major oil deals between Chinese companies and the government there. Difficult, but not impossible.

I've been to Peruvian restaurants and had "arroz chaufa" which is like Chinese-inspired Peruvian fried rice. Then was informed of the sizable Chinese community in Peru.

Btw arroz chaufa is great

Yep, there are tons of Chinese restaurants in Peru. If you've been there and ventured outside the obvious tourist places you'd probably know it from that at least.

It's on the Pacific Ocean, and I guessed it along with Colombia, Ecuador and Chile. Not much of a stretch.

As others have pointed out, it's not too big a leap from remembering Alberto Fujimori to thinking that there may be a large Chinese- as well as Japanese-Peruvian community.

This is precisely why I guessed it. I knew there was a big Japanese community there and figured there was probably a big Chinese community as well. Which is incidentally also why I typed Brazil five times before finally admitting defeat.

Most Japanese immigrants to South America actually came as 'proper' immigrants, while most Chinese people came as coolies, i.e. indentured labourers. I believe it's mainly because of the guano trade that so many of them went to Peru.

Yes, in May 2016, although either country name still earns you the point.

I'm absolutely stunned it isn't more in Africa. A friend of mine lives in Kikwit, DRC, and says there are Chinese people everywhere... they are building roads and infrastructure in exchange for lucrative natural resources contracts (the DRC is one of the richest countries in the world with natural resources). I'll leave the politics out of it but he says there are whole sections of Kinshasa that are essentially a Chinatown.

You could have a city the size of Cincinnati full of nothing but Chinese people, and it still wouldn't be enough to make it on this list. The countries on here have some *very* substantial Chinese populations. There are no doubt many Chinese workers in a lot of African countries, but not enough to touch these numbers.

I tried a lot of african countries too, but I was thinking about the illegal wildlife trade of animals and parts of animals. Apparently there are not a lot of hunters, just a lot of buyers. Sadly, there are people that still believe in such things as magical cures through keratin and bones.

The quiz is asking about Overseas Chinese, not about Chinese nationals who happen to be working in a given country.

Mainly for business reasons. I have a friend in college whos a Chinese-Venezuelan. Her grandparents went there to open a shop and lived there for most of their lives. She and her parents are all born in Venezuela.

They all speak fluent Chinese and Cantonese (since they are originally from Guangdong), and recently trying to immigrate back to China due to the unstable political environment right now in Venezuela.
