But they never did "tax this". New Zealand's top tax rate of 39% is lower than the top rates of Australia (45%), United Kingdom (47%) and most European countries including Germany, France and Netherlands. The downside of course is that NZ cannot properly fund its schools, hospitals and roads, so I guess you get what you pay for. (The top rate in NZ only applies to dollars owned over $180,000 per year, so in practice NZers pay far less than this percentage. For example, an NZer earning $70,000 per year pays 20% of their income in tax, and one earning $100,000 per year pays just under 24%)
Well I got this quiz back on track, with another answer added! Tax cuts will be great (even if they are pretty small), but there's still no sign of how they'll be paid for, and I think making his numbers add up will be Answer #29's first real test. And he'll have to stop bringing in stuff he never campaigned on - the disastrous smoking laws don't put NZ back on track at all. Luxon conceding that to Winston in coalition negotiations was very weak. Still, back-on-track will be a three year job, so I'm hopeful he'll improve from his rocky start.
