Good quiz but not sure why you refer to the Republic Of Congo and Micronesia as their full names but not North Korea (Democratic people's republic of Korea) a bit inconsistent.
Fair point; the same argument applies for United Mexican States, Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Republic of Korea (and China), and Peoples' Republic of China, and so on, and so on. It would probably be easier if there was consensus on the Congo front by calling them North and South Congo; the way it is usually referred to is a bit messy but is there any better option? The problem with Micronesia is that that name also refers to a much bigger area, so the FSM name appears to make a clear distinction between the country and the larger region. Again, messy, but is there any better option?
FSM is only insisted on in English, other languages have no problem with Micronesia. Lots of other country names refer to a wider area (Ireland, Macedonia, Luxembourg, Azerbaijan, Moldova, South Africa etc).
Even the ISO standard recognizes the correct alphabetization.
North Korea is 3285 km / 2041 mi from the US, closer than Netherlands (4992 km / 3102 mi away). What more consistent names can you suggest? I have no idea what "the article is no excuse" is supposed to mean - I don't have the slightest interest in excusing anything. But I do have an interest in making fun quizzes, and your specific suggestions as to how to improve them are very welcome.
OK, if that is the case, then Saba is a Special Municipality of Netherlands in the Caribbean, which is closer than North Korea. Have added a note in the instructions to only include European Netherlands and France.
I'm consistent in my quizzes about counting these as countries (though please note that when they are featured, they're subject to Quizmaster edits to align them with his 196-country template). I haven't seen these discussions - please let me know where they are!
The other quizzes are any of the "Closest to the United States" other than yours. I apologize, I did not realize that you were the Quiz Master in this case, Jerry. If I had, I would have known that you would actually include those countries that are actually CLOSEST! - I THANK YOU you for this quiz and will take it again for the pleasure of being able to type in Aruba and Sint Maarten!
North Korea might be a republic, and it's certainly Korean, but it's not democratic and it's not of the people either. Type-in is now reluctantly allowed, but quizzers, please don't use it.

also: the netherlands are closer to the us than north korea. the article is no excuse.
Sint Maarten can't be included. Yet, suddenly HERE THEY
ARE! -
Yaren-Palmyra Atoll: 3518 km
Yaren-Lihue: 4427 km
Utqiagvik-Ny-Ålesund: 3311 km
Utqiagvik-Honningsvåg: 4211 km
I doubt that USA is closer to Nauru than to Norway.
