Missing United Kingdom: 13 letters.

Technically, it should be United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (45 letters).

They added United Kingdom now, I believe.

Also, it shouldn't by the description:

'as defined on Jetpunk's Countries of the World quiz'

I guess I was thinking too far outside the box. Kept trying DPRK for North Korea and Russian Federation. Good quiz!

Me too haha

even if North Korea was on there you still would've had to type it out fully

It would be nice if we didn't have to type out each of the letters, but could still use the common names, e.g. just Bosnia or St Kitts.

I agree it would be nice, but I also wonder if with this one, Longest Country Names, that would defeat the purpose of this quiz? What do other people think? I'll go with the majority view on this one. (I do allow abbreviations like "Bosnia" and "St Kitts" on all my other country quizzes).

I completely agree with the author on this one. I am tired of just writing Bosnia. Let's write the whole country names for once, should we? :)

Those interesting spellings of Herzegovina will work now.

I like having to type out the entire name - although it would be helpful to mention it in the rules.

Fair point - I've added that now.

I guess it's a question of what your criteria for success is: A) Knowledge of which countries have long names, or B) knowledge of what the names are. I know the name is Bosnia and Her[someOtherLetters]ina, and so would guess that country as one of the 20, but would struggle to spell it correctly all the way to the end..

I like it, and I think you should keep it.

But now that I’ve started using mobile much more, longer country names have become much harder because of how much you have to delete to fix a one letter typo

What about Kosovo and Metohia?
+2
Level 75
Aug 30, 2014
Interesting question, which touches on the fact that Kosovo is only partially recognised, by 108 (a small majority) of the world's nations. If you accept that Kosovo is a nation (which I and the Countries of the World quiz does), then that country's full name is Republic of Kosovo, and conversational name (that applies to this quiz) is Kosovo. "Kosovo and Metohia" is the name given by Serbia to the area covered by Kosovo, which they assert is actually an autonomous province of Serbia.

Why, why, why do I always write St. Kitts and the Grenadines, and St.Vincent and Nevis? They are permanently stuck in my head that way.

I remember Kitts and Nevis are the same length. If you get Lucia stuck in the group too, just remember both Kitts and Nevis end with 's'.

Dang it I didn't type Czech Republic in the quiz because I thought it wasn't including long names, but most of the quizzes on this site have it as Czech Republic. Also, the countries of the world was made before Czechia became the official name too.

Yes, time has caught up with this quiz as we now use Czechia for our quizzes. We'll leave this one here for now though, because the Countries of the World quiz (our standard for inclusion for this quiz) still uses Czech Republic for now.

If you are insisting on full names, then it's United States of America, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Russian Federation. Lack of consistency here

Please re-read the instructions, and you'll find it's totally consistent!

Why is Guinea-Bissau below USA? I assumed that countries with the same amount of letters would be in alphabetical order.

earlier and it would have been FYROM with the most
