It is quite difficult in terms of vocabulary, just like any other language with Arabic roots. On the positive side, the spelling is in Latin characters and when you speak some conversational Arabic you will understand a lot when in Malta.
Never rely on Google translate, I am sure one of the next world wars will start because of the quality of automated translations. French is one of my mother tongues ;-)
For the languages I don't speak well or not at all, I took texts from newspapers (to avoid speling mistakes).
Thanks for the cheering by the way. Very appreciated!
Only missed Slovenian and Maltese. Took some guessing all the languages from the family it was from and looking for a few clues in a few for others, but not TOO hard for me. I love learning languages (heck, with all my roommates, there's English, Russian, Farsi, Romanian AND Mandarin speakers in our house! And being Canadian, I also had many years of French and for fun I've studied German- still actively for that one- and a few years of Japanese.)
Are these from new articles? The Portuguese excerpt exclaims the government is "...tackling immigration problems." While the Afrikaans sentence describes a man's beheading of his girlfriend in nearby Namibia.
Interesting quiz! I missed the lowest 5. But I guessed hawaiian for maori, not too far off... I give myself half a point for that haha.
never heard of kinyarwanda.
It might be better, then again maybe not (cause this is interesting too). If all the sentence said the same. It would at least be more educational, (if you dont want to put all the senteces through a translator)
I always thought Mongolian was written in its own alphabet, not the Cyrillic alphabet that Russian uses. A glance at Wikipedia tells me that Mongolian can be written in either alphabet, which must be rare among languages.
Fantastic quiz, though.

It's not a grammatical construction that translates word-for-word into English, but it's valid as-is.
