Name the animals represented by the various range areas on the map. Conservation status (on the map) and animal class (on the answer grid) are also provided as clues.
When answers refer to a specific species, common group names are accepted
Circular icons refer to conservation status (see key for reference)
Ranges are not exact or complete (sourced primarily but not exclusively from Wikipedia)
Congrats on the milestone of 7 years on JetPunk! And what a great map that is, well done dug :) Oh and the text above the box where you type the answers doesn't seem to be right.
So are we supposed to just read your mind on some of these? For example, the Harpy Eagle has a very, very similar population distribution and is also NT.
Nice job spotting that. :) Harpy eagle will work now. In most cases, I believe the information is unique enough to prevent multiple valid answers. However, if others are pointed out, I'll be happy to add them as type-ins.
Okay! I just so happen to be interested in Harpy Eagles, so just a coincidence there. But anyway, I've always thought about making a quiz like this but thought it would be too hard to come up with unique answers. Though most of yours certainly are unique. And providing the conservation status is a great idea.
And, actually I just noticed that those little specs near northern Mexico belong to the Jaguar, areas where the Harpy Eagle definitely isn't present.
I don't mean to ruin your plans, but maybe giving part of its scientific classification would help make things more clear (or if you were going to do more of these in the future that would allow for less unique animals). E.g., its order or family.
This is a great quiz and I would love to see more like it, but I agree with cathlete here. A little taxonomic guidance or maybe pairing the areas up with their number in the answer grid for alphabetic guidance.
Neat idea. Would you consider accepting Barbary Ape? I know they aren't technically apes but I usually think of them by that name, and their Wikipedia article mentions that they are commonly referred to as such.
Wonderful, yet fairly difficult quiz. I wonder in many cases why the species haven’t spread out to more land and only appear in tiny dots. I was under the impression that snow leopards were much more threatened. Anyway, nominated.
And of course, great SVG

But just an idea I thought of & figured I'd share
