Play-Doh People from History

Many historical figures are easily recognized from photographs and well-known paintings, but can you identify these notable (or notorious) people made from Play-Doh?
Since these are original sculptures, the resemblance is not always as accurate as I would like. Hopefully, that just adds to the challenge! :)

Thanks MG! I should have asked you to suggest a historical figure from Brazil. Pele, maybe?
+3

Pelé would be a good choice as he is born on my state as he is the absolute king of soccer (don’t trust on Argentinians with Maradona 😅😜), but also cool picks of Brazilians could be Juscelino Kubitscheck (president, who built Brasília), Ayrton Senna (one of the best F1 racers ever), or Oscar Niemeyer (architect, with many beautiful buildings all over the world).

But don’t feel obligated to add a Brazilian on this series! Is already gorgeous the way it is! :)

Unfortunately, I deconstructed them as soon as I took a picture, so I can't give you an exact number. However, I'd estimate that they averaged around 3-4 inches tall.

Before anyone complains about Frederick Douglass’ inclusion - he was the most photographed man of the 19th century, making it an important test if people can still identify him by appearance today
+1
Level 55
Jun 14, 2025
Not complaining about his inclusion, but I don't think he's that well known outside the US (or at least North America), regardless of his status as most photographed man in the 19th century.

This quiz has at least made me aware of him.

Woke has nothing to do with it. This is a great effort and brilliant quiz, but that does not look much like Douglass other than the clue of the wispy strands of white hair. Douglass had a broader face and fuller hair at the sides in most photos. Although not sure I can come up with another historical figure that looks like that.

Again, love the quiz and would like to see more.

Brilliant and beautiful - I cannot believe you took them apart. If I'd made those they'd be sitting on my mantelpiece for all to admire! Thank you.

Like many others I'm off to look up Frederick Douglass - not all famous names make it across the Atlantic Crusty and Europe has many, many heroes of its own. I was astonished to discover the other day that my Canadian cousins hadn't heard of Edith Piaf.

It's shameful that Douglass is by far the least recognized.

I don't think Confucius belongs on here. Although he is not the only one on here whose likeness predates photography (or oil painting, for that matter), there's really nothing that identified him as him - that really sets him apart. At least with Cleopatra, the jewelry really narrows it down. I only got him because I had plenty of time to keep typing a bunch of things really quickly to see what "stuck", and since he was vaguely East Asian looking, it wasn't too hard. I think that Mao would be better because any representation of him could be nailed down as being more accurate.

I don't think Douglass is very well known outside the US: all countries have their slavery pasts, and so their own stories of abolition. One country's anti-slavery movement isn't going to gain that much attention outside that country, especially so long after the events in question.
