There's a common pattern that almost all of these apply to. But cough drop?!?

Cough drops in Japan are nothing like cough drops in the US. US cough drops are very 'medicinal'. In most other countries, cough drops are much more 'natural'. Like lemon and honey, natural mint, eucalyptus, herbs... not cloying cherry flavor.

Without living in Japan, all you can do is guess. Another "luck test" quiz.

You can often find some of the unusual varieties at Asian grocery stores, at least in the USA.

I've had a couple of these. I don't get the point in making them.

I've never been to Japan either, but you can have good guesses based on some cultural knowledge of the country, and a bit of common sense. It won't get you 100%, but you can have a reasonable attempt.

^Exactly. Do you think anyone would want to eat an earwax or fresh linen flavored Kit Kat?

My favorite fake Japanese Kit Kat flavor is mackerel-raccoon.

This is a great quiz idea. I had a coworker come back from Japan with all sorts of different Japanese food including an unbelievable number of Kit-Kat flavors. It was fun for everyone to try them all.

Literally 50-50 for me on all of these. I thought there would be more fake "Japanese-sounding" ones though, so I should've trusted maxism a bit more :) Great fun.

The fact that none of these flavours seem completely implausible (except maybe earwax, maybe) says a lot about japanese weirdness.

I couldn't imagine earwax being a Kit Kat flavor.....

Definitely pushed my luck with putting it as an option lol. However, it is a flavour in those Harry Potter branded jelly beans..

Not really sure why but I don't find cough drop particularly surprising, certainly seems more practical than some of the flavors on this quiz, but that being said, I did guess fried chicken and Swedish meatballs to be real because I felt like it was so ridiculous they probably made it
