Are camels just not common in Iran for some reason?

Apparently not

They are in the east, but not in the west or north. It may be that the reporting is inadequate.

To be fair, if I led a country's statistical agency, I wouldn't put the camel census very high on the priority list.

Well, it's obvious why you're not the head of your country's census department with such a callous attitude to camel statistics

My theory is it's because Iran is mostly mountains, whereas the other countries are mostly flat desert and scrubland. This is also why Afghanistan, the rest of Central Asia, and Morocco are also not camel hubs. Still a bit confused on Egypt though.

Kinda surprised Egypt and Iran don't make it. They seem to be surrounded by very camel-ly places.

Interesting quiz, good concept. Expected to see Kazakhstan on the list but think it just missed out. How many (if any?) of these countries in the list are based on a majority of bactrian (two humps) camels?

Mongolia definitely is, I was surprised that it was the least guessed and assumed it was because people just forgot about the poor bactrian camels.

I'm sorry, but I refuse to believe that 74% of quiz takers correctly identified "Eritrea" as a nation with a high camel population, without Google. In fact, I wouldn't believe that 74% would identify Eritrea as an African nation without Google. Remember, y'all, when you cheat, you're only cheating yourself.
+31
Level 67
May 2, 2021
Eritrea is the only one I missed, but I can definitely identify it as an African nation (and on a map) without Google! Keep in mind, Jetpunk users are not indicative of the general population. A large percentage of users can ace the countries of the world quiz, and then end up doing a lot of other geography quizzes. So on a quiz like this, when you know the general part of the world you're going for, it's not hard to figure it out.

I just listed countries in the middle east and north africa, so eritrea and djibouti were both among my guesses. I imagine more than 74% of regular Jetpunk users can name all the countries in the world, let alone Africa.

@Icelemontea 74% of jetpunkers definitely cannot ace the countries of the world quiz

JetPunkers could, but the Countries of the World Quiz, being the most popular quiz, is probably the first one a lot of newbies take.

The country least guessed in countries of the world here in jetpunk is São Tomé and Príncipe with 23%, so at most 23% knows every country of the world hahaha

the amount of people who knows eritrea there is 37%, so we should expect that at most 37% of jetpunkers knows eritrea.

That been said, lots of people probably did that quiz and barely made level 20, which is very low. The lowest level of anyone who commented at this quiz is 35, more casual jetpunkers probably wont get to this quiz, it is definetely possible that 74% of people in here knows of eritrea.

So you think people can never know more than they do at a certain point in time, that learning isn't a thing? But in that case they must have known it all of their lives, and actually been born with that knowledge. Imagine that! Just being born and already able to recite all the countries. Ow they can't talk yet of course, they still need to learn.. ow wait of course they already have a full grasp of the language! No learning! perhaps the body isn't developed and trained enough yet for speech, but once that is in order full sentences roll out!

I didn't score 100% on countries of the world quiz when I first took it (some oceania countries were new to me) but ever since then I know them all. And I think that goes for most people on this site. And Eritrea is not even that obscure imo, recalling something under pressure and a time limit is another thing. So if you were to ask the same people that missed Eritrea, if they had heard of the country there is a good chance they already knew it.

I tried Eritrea and Djibouti but forgot Ethiopia and Tunisia. Once you learn all the countries some stick out in your mind more than others. I do believe most of the regular quiz takers on here know Eritrea.

JetPunkers are not stupid. Eritrea is not that small, and it's quite powerful for its size. You can refuse all you want, it's in the region you'd expect camels to be in, and is an obvious choice. Just because you got 3/20 doesn't mean anyone cheated.

Some of the surprising misses are probably because of economic factors. People in Iran and Egypt are well-off enough to not have to rely on camels for subsistence, as opposed to Sudan and Eritrea, for example. The Gulf states seem to break this rule, obviously.
