The word "faction" in the clue for "caste" is an extremely odd use of that term, and I would argue is incorrect. (Or maybe the answer is incorrect, I dunno; the point is that the clue and the answer are two quite different things and don't go together.)
A faction - in the religious sense - is a self-organizing (or self-selected) subdivision of the larger group that exists in ideological opposition to that main group.
Whereas a caste is basically a theologically related tier on a social class system. It is not self-organizing (is rather imposed by the dogma of the religion overall) and does not exist in any sense of ideological opposition to the other castes (but rather in parallel to them).
The castes in Hinduism are not factions of Hinduism.
That clue/answer could stand some refinement, IMHO.
