2,000 Biggest World Cities Furthest from a Larger City
The 2,000 cities in this quiz are the ones that are at least 138.87 km away from a larger city. Typing a city will also highlight the ones within 750 km unless they have a population at least twice as big.
You are shown the number of cities that can get you each answer: a red dot indicate there's none
Due to the nature of this quiz, JetPunk will probably be unable to make updates or modifications. Please accept that there may be small errors in such a massive quiz that are impractical to correct.
1820 on the first try. I've never heard of most of the Siberian, Saharan, or Pacific cities. I should have gotten Dutch Harbor, Longyearbyen, Luau, and Male.
Great quiz. Still has a few glitches though. When you type in Gothenburg, Kaliningrad or Aleksandrovsk-Sakhalinskiy nothing happens. When you type in Saint Louis, you get 32 green dots and 32 credited to your score, but there are 33 cities in list of names below. Saint Louis and Fort Smith appear twice in the list, but only once on the map and Birmingham is on the map but not in the list.
Fort Smith, Canada turns green when you enter Edmonton, but does not show up on the list. If you type any city that makes Fort Smith, US turn green and both Fort Smiths show up on the list.
that's because some city names appear twice and the 'match answers to grid' connects both names in the list to the same one. I tried changing them manually but the quiz didn't get saved, I think because it has too many answers. thanks for your comment!
By guessing cities and then having a look at the cities furthest away from that one and typing that one in you can cheat really easily. Maybe make another version were guessed cities disappear, thus disabling the player from doing this.
Looks quite random which "cities" who are listed here, when Grytviken and Olonkinbyen are listed, but not Qaanaaq or a lot of towns in northern Canada. Maybee some updates are needed.
How on Earth is Yarmouth, Nova Scotia the most completed answer out of 2,000, at 99%? Weird overlap of certain cities, but you'd think NYC would trump it within the 750km rule.
Has someone captured scambigol and forced them to sit in a dark cave and come up with sadistically clever and brutally difficult quizzes?? This is the only explanation that makes sense to me. :-)
They keep putting Faaa instead of Papeete on Jetpunk... it seems the suburb is bigger than the main city. Anyway, I've read Quizmaster's sticker and I won't complain too much. Maybe at least add Papeete as a type-in?
Apart from that it's nice but I don't know why we are not given the shapes of the continents and main islands. It would help slightly.
Maybe this is the time to slow things down and just post two Quizzes a day instead of four? It's getting painful watching you post more and more pointless/outlandish geography Quizzes because all the good ones have already been done.
Pointless? Outlandish? Scambigol put a lot of work into this, so he certainly deserves to have it featured. Also, tons of JetPunkers love quizzes like this! It may be difficult for beginners, but for serial JetPunkers this is a fun challenge that tests how much we've learned on other quizzes across the site.
If you want easier quizzes, just look for easier ones--there are plenty.
Working hard on something doesn't mean it wasn't pointless. Where did I say it was difficult? Where did I say I wanted easier quizzes? Where did I imply you were a better geography quizzer than me (you're not)?
Fabulous. It was satisfying that Archangelsk, Murmansk and Yellowknife helped me, but would be fun to know more of the towns in remote wildernesses. At least there was Timbuktu and Alice Springs - don't get the chance to use them very often.
Very rarely do you ever see Cleveland at the top of a good list. It was the first city I typed, but I think it is top because NYC, Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Philadelphia, and maybe DC give you Cleveland as well. Harrisburg is up there as well for the same reason.
it must have taken ages
Apart from that it's nice but I don't know why we are not given the shapes of the continents and main islands. It would help slightly.
Patagonia, Indonesia, Central-East Russia and North/Central Africa were all weak spots. Missed a couple of obvious ones. Will try it again soon.
Great quiz!
Probably my favourite quiz I’ve done on this site, perfect mix of world and city knowledge without the country borders!
