Same here. I don't understand the need for so little time. It turns it into a fast typing test rather than a test of knowledge. it would be difficult enough with more time. Bah.
The reason that some people don't like taking these types of quizzes is because as ander217 said, this is a test of typing and speed skills, rather than it being knowledge-based, which is what a quiz typically does. If someone isn't good at fast typing, we miss out on points, and being able to obtain a higher level. For those of us that are completist OCD types, not being able to "win" at every quiz is rather disappointing. I (and I'm guessing all the people that liked the original comment) agree with ander217.
This is the fast-typing version. Please play the normal version if you can't type all these fast enough. I'm personally inclined to say that this is a "skill issue" as it is perfectly feasible after a few attempts for even a chicken-pecker like me.
Interesting that four of those official languages (Canichana, Cayubaba, Guarasuawe and Puquina if you must know) are actually extinct! Weirder still, German doesn't have official status, despite being spoken by 160,000 people.
They're largely Mennonite, Jerry, and of relatively late arrival. This isn't to say that this ought to disqualify German as an official language, but I don't know a lot of places where immigrant groups not from the dominant colonizing society get that sort of official national recognition.
It was mainly a populist strategy. The 36 languages was supported by the notion that there are 36 indigenous nations in Bolivia, thus dividing the opposition cities (on the east) where there are many more "nations".
I think the only option is tamil/sinhala because the first 51 are unique in some country and you are then left with parts of exJugoslavia and Sri Lanka
There is no such thing as Montenegrin language. It is same lake Serbian. The best solution is Sebo-Croatian (Serbian or Croatian) for Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro.
Great quiz! While I assume that this comes from your source, there is no language called "Maldivian." It's called Dhivehi. That said, typing Dhivehi works, so this doesn't even constitute a complaint.
Maldivian is a language according to the Oxford Dictionary of English—a definition is: the Indic language spoken in the Maldives, related to Sinhalese.
Cool quiz, but a little more time would be great! I would like to take a closer look to the map while thinking of the languages spoken in each country... unfortunatelly, with 90 secs it is impossible to think
please give more time. this is just a speed typing test. those of us with hand injuries need an extension, along with many others with dexterity issues. thanks!
Azerbaijani is Turkic language like Turkish, Kazakh, Uzbek and so on. Azerbaijani is the second most spoken language(more than 50 million native speakers) in Turkic family but, I would say it is the richest and the most intelligible language which means only learning Azerbaijani will help you to understand not only Turkish but also Central Asian languages
Official languages of Wales are English and Welsh. In this quiz it is not needed to enter every language spoken in a country otherwise PNG would need 6,912 separate entries.
In Wales the official languages are English and Welsh, but as a whole the UK does not have any official language. The UK should appear at the start because it has no official language throughout. The situation is much the same in the USA - Hawaii has English and Hawaiian as official languages but there is no nationwide official language. If the USA is given at the start the UK should be too. Source - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_official_languages_by_country_and_territory#U . I know that Wikipedia might not be accurate so if you do have a source I would be interested to see it.
Yes - English is only de-facto (by practice) official as the UK's main language, not de-jure (by law) offical. (Welsh is de-jure official in Wales, making it the only language in the UK to have de-jure/legal official status, though that only applies in Wales - in the rest of the UK, Welsh is recognised regional language.)
I did it with 2 seconds to spare. I also did it while recognizing all legitimate ex-Yugo languages (eg Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian, Montenegrin plus Slovenian, Macedonian and Albanian).
if you have the top six languages spoken worldwide/the official UN languages entered in first, it's pretty easy. Hard part is the time to type all the one-country-only languages that consist of basically the entire country name with "ese" or "ian" added in.
why not unite serbian, bosnian, croatian and montenegrin as serbo-croatian? everyone knows it's basically the same language, even if they say it isn't. you've already done that for kosovo.
You should include Basque, Catalan, Galician and Occitan for Spain because they're co-official languages (and I wouldn't have to type in Catalan just for Andorra)
They are only co-official at the regional level, not at the national level (i.e. at the sovereign state level, which this website deals with). If you were to include such regional languages of Spain, then you would have to include a huge amount of other langauge from around the world - it would become too unwieldy.
What language was South Africa counted under? I tried Afrikaans and it didn't accept it, so it must have been counted under either English or Dutch. If Dutch, it would be incorrect as Afrikaans, while a derivative of the Dutch language, is a language in its own right.
You can just check yourself. Afrikaans is accepted, dutch isnt, several other languages are aswell including english. Simply look at the results, it is near the top.
Not a fan of short timed quizzes, no point at all. As for memory recall speed, they're useless because the brain is way ahead of finger lag and computer lag, typos, all that irrelevance. It's better to click "Take untimed" and really quiz your knowledge and learn instead of rattling off by rote like Rain Man.
I finally did it! It's taken me about three days to get 160 and finally, I got there. This quiz was more about how much you can type in 1:30 instead of the language itself. Other then that, it was hard.
Why are Urdu and Hindi listed as Hindustani? Urdu is written in Arabic script and Hindi in Devanagri script. This is a direct insult to Pakistan and Urdu, because the whole point of freedom was to be separated from Hindus and Hindustan. Plz elaborate if i'm wrong. Thanks.
I know right? I keep getting like 96% of the languages, but then the time runs out. I'm not a slow typer, I just make a lot of mistakes when going full speed.
Because they don't have an official language. Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Chile, Eritrea, Mexico, and the Netherlands should also be grayed out.
According to the Languages of the World Quiz, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Chile, Eritrea, Mexico, Netherlands also don't have an official language. It would be nice if the quizzes agreed with each other.
I complain all the time about this and it is never addressed. This is another typing speed test. 90 seconds is ridiculous to a slow typist. At least offer a timer free version. This site should be about learning, not a competition. It is so arrogant to not respond or acknowledge that a lot of people just don't type very well. They don't even tech typing in school anymore.I see someone else here has the same complaint.
Ћирилица с́ з́ latinica ś ź
Oni ne kazu predsednik nego preśednik :D
The official language in Montenegro shall be Montenegrin. Cyrillic and Latin alphabet shall be equal.
Serbian, Bosniac, Albanian and Croatian shall also be in the official use
https://wipolex.wipo.int/en/text/187544
So Serbian, Bosnia(n/c), Albanian and Croatian shall also fill out Montenegro, just like how Swedish works for Finland.
Like Romanian = Moldovan.
I like this quiz but the time is too limited
