Yeah, great quiz! Small suggestion, for stats: for each category of countries, for those who have taken the quiz can you please show which country was guessed? It'd be UBER-interesting!
I think that's currently impossible, unfortunately. I'm still new to making quizzes, so maybe I just can't see how to do it yet, but I don't think it's possible.
Great quiz! I honestly like this more than the one that's just all countries of the world by area because I feel like here I did less random guessing and more actual use of geography skills and map observations.
Knowing you have to adjust and which are larger and smaller than in actual fact still doesnt help (much) if you don't know by how much each country is deformed. You could know country A is seems much bigger on the map than it in actual fact is, but that doesn't let you know if it is in actual fat bigger or smaller than country b.
In short, you don't know by how much you need to adjust. Even if you know about Mercator
Great quiz, but the instructions should make it clear that we want the largest by area. Quite often when we speak of the the largest countries in the world, we are referring to population.
I have never heard largest being used and it not having meant surface area. Maybe you have seen "largest by popolation". Largest for me always refers to size of the country (area...)
My suggestion is to either rank Denmark's whole area (including Greenland), or to grey out Greenland to make it clear you are only considering the small area of Denmark that is in Europe, next to Germany. At the moment you rank Denmark as being very small, but when you choose "small" Denmark it colours in Greenland as well, which is confusing.
Same complaint I always have, not enough time for poor typists, doesn't matter how fast your mind is when you can't type fast and accurately. It's not a fair test at all.
Also, if your mind is truly quick enough, 49 countries is more than doable in 6 minutes. To 2 s.f, you need a mere 7.35 wpm to complete it within the given time. Even if you do end up taking 4 minutes thinking, you still have 2 minutes left, which means you need 24.5 wpm to finish typing it all.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, or if it's already been asked. But for Denmark, why is Greenland not counted towards the area of the country? That would certainly move it up the rankings!
Anyways, nominated!
In short, you don't know by how much you need to adjust. Even if you know about Mercator
Remember that no one is born a great typist
Pretty lenient if you ask me
Great quiz, either way!
