As a costume person I am surprised how late the costume design award came in. Twenty years after the production design! Oh wait, no I'm not surprised. Costume is always overlooked.
That is surprising. What had and has a bigger impact on the fashion industry than movies? Although the award usually seems to go to period or fantasy movies rather than contemporary ones. Anyway, I think everybody now realizes how important the correct look in all areas of design are to any production.
Considering that the name was changed quite recently to production design (it used to be either art direction/set design) I think that this one should be accepted.
It says "There are 23 categories....how many can you name?" I can name all 23, and I typed in "23", "twenty three", and "all" and it wouldn't take any of them as an answer.
I tried "Adaptation" and "Film Adaptation". If I'd had a few more hours, I still wouldn't have guessed that the category is called "Adapted Screenplay". Even "Screenplay Adaptation" doesn't work. Surely anything to do with "adapt" is close enough?
A movie or a film is the same as "picture." Any of those words should be accepted. They are synonymous regardless of the word used specifically in presenting the award.
Eh...I don't know. It's the most famous award, and it's always been called "Best Picture." I understand type-ins for lesser awards like "Makeup and Hairstyling," but you hear the term "Best Picture" like 50,000 times every award season.
