I thought of quokka instead of quagga, and thought huh, are they extinct ?!?! Since when, when did this happen (and i only recently learned about them too, didnt know them 5 years ago)

Proboscis monkey is not specific to Indonesia. I've seen them in the wild in Sabah (Malaysian Borneo).
