Jakarta is sinking!
(And check out the bottom and P.S. because I need help and I need some people telling me how I can improve my blogs and how to put pictures in them)
I am not from Indonesia, but I have heard that Jakarta has been sinking by at least 10 cm in some places.
This may be happening because of the following:
1-Jakarta is a flood prone city.
When the monsoon season of Southeast Asia comes, heavy rains, typhoons and strong winds can damage buildings, and cause floods, therefore also making the ground moist. The buildings then might slowly sink into the moist ground.
2-Rising sea levels
The rising sea levels nowadays are caused by global warming. With a population of 33,430,285 in its metro area, Jakarta needs to produce a lot of electricity. It then contributes to the many pollutants up in the sky, and causes global warming, the reflection of heat to the earth, but more heat gets trapped in the Earth, warming it up.
3-Over extraction of groundwater
The over extraction of groundwater causes the ground to lose firmness and therefore commences sinking. The groundwater makes the soil structurally sound because it holds heavy rocks up (I think, I'm not that good at groundwater science) and therefore gives structural soundness to the buildings. Without groundwater, the rocks sink and the buildings sink too.
"But what about the new capital?"
Don't worry, the president, Joko Widodo, said the new capital would be on Borneo, if this ever happened. Other theories may be that it will be on Palembang or Medan (my theory). Most likely, this will not happen yet.
Well, thanks for reading my first (long) blog post. If there is anything I could improve on, please tell me in the comments. (anything I could improve on, except images, check P.S.)
P.S. Could someone teach me how to put in images for my blog, because when I add images, it shows a white paper with a picture. Please help!
Thanks! I will take your advice to heart.
