Welcome back, once again, to The Countries Iceberg.
In today's blog we will cover tiers 17 and 18.
You think you know geography? This blog is going to cover some of the strangest and most obscure entities that exist in the world today. Let's get into it... (hopefully the government won't find out)
Tier 17 - Sovereign Yidindji Government

Continent: Asia
Gornja Siga and other pockets
(GOOR-nya-SEE-ga)
Gornja Siga and other pockets are bits of land disputed between Croatia and Serbia in the area of the Danube. The border situation became an issue in 1947, was not really spoken about during Yugoslavia's existence, and became a hot topic again when Croatia ascended to the European Union. Serbia claims that the current flow of the river defines the border, while Croatia claims that it's where the river flowed when the border was created. This leads to an odd situation where pockets of land are claimed by both nations, and a few aren't claimed by either one.

Biafra
In 1967, after long-standing tensions in Nigeria between the Igbos and other ethnic groups, the Igbos seceded and formed their own state, known as the Republic of Biafra. This launched the Nigerian Civil War, which resulted in the country reclaiming Biafra.
The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), which is what this entry is referring to, is a modern-day organization that pushes for the re-independence of Biafra, or more generally, the creation of an ethnic Igbo state. They operate a government-in-exile for the nation, and also issue their own currency and passports. Nutopia has no laws other than cosmic. Citizenship of the country can be obtained by declaration of your awareness of Nutopia." It's pretty clearly a parallel to Lennon's song "Imagine".
The real reason behind Nutopia is easier to grasp. Lennon, a British citizen, wanted to move to the United States, but had trouble getting through the immigration system. After receiving an order to leave the country, he created Nutopia and declared himself an ambassador in order to stay longer. He waited it out, and eventually was able to stay legally.

The nations of Iraq and Kuwait share a 158 mile / 254 kilometer-long border. This is notable because, along the border, there is a neutral zone extending six miles into Iraq and three miles into Kuwait. This strip is guarded by a 15-foot wide fence, trenches, soldiers, and helicopters. It was constructed by request of the United Nations, in order to prevent a second Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.
Continent: Asia
Ceuta border fence
The Ceuta border fence is, well, a border fence between the autonomous Spanish city of Ceuta and the African nation of Morocco. The strip of land between the walls of the fence are considered to be a neutral ground, though Morocco objects to this, and considers the entire city of Ceuta theirs.
The point of the fence is to keep Moroccans from fleeing to the much more well-off Spain, though it has been breached several times.

Before this, the island was a military base where Juan Perón was once imprisoned.
Technically, Martin García is just the southern half of a larger island. The northern half, Timoteo Domínguez, is Uruguayan territory that rose out of a sand bank and merged with the island in the 1980's.
Continent: South America
Preah Vihear Temple
Preah Vihear Temple is an ancient Hindu temple and UNESCO World Heritage Site located in northern Cambodia. It was built by the Khmer Empire in the 800s, and remained an important religious center until Buddhists eventually took it over.
Politically, it is the subject of a long-running dispute between Cambodia and Thailand. During colonial rule, the French let Thailand (then Siam) occupy the complex. After Cambodia became independent, it used official French maps to justify its claim on the temple. In 1962, the International Court of Justice ruled that it belonged to Cambodia, but Thailand continues to claim it. After a series of violent clashes, the ICJ ordered both armies to leave the area in 2011, effectively making it a demilitarized zone.

This is quite informational, I had never heard of the proposed/attempted second nation on Sri Lanka, and also didn't know about the border fences around those African-side Spanish cities. Doesn't Myanmar just look like a hot mess?
Clearly you guys have put a lot of time and effort into this iceberg. Massive props to you, don't feel discouraged
