Hockey Explained #1 Equipment
Shin guards
Ice Skates
Leg warmers
Shorts
Chest Protector
Elbow guards
Jersey
Helmet
Gloves
Hockey Stick
Extras
Let’s go over these in detail.
Shin Guards and Leg Warmers
Usually the shin guards are attached with a Velcro strip to the other side that wraps around the leg. The leg warmers are attached by Velcro on special pants or by tape wrapped around them.
Ice Skates
These are skates with sharpen-able blades. You can have skate guards and roller skate guards, which are skate guards with wheels.
Shorts
These are not pants. They go over your pants and come in a variety of colors. One skater in the image has red pants, while the other one has black.
Chest Protector
These go under your jersey and usually contain Velcro.
Elbow Guards
Also known as Elbow Pads, these go on your elbow and lower arm.
Jersey
Every team has a special jersey layout, usually featuring the logo. You will have your last name and number on it. On my hockey jersey it has: White 22.
Helmet
The helmet is like a bicycle helmet with a shield made of metal or Plexiglass with a chin guard. There are 3 straps: Chinstrap, Right Strap, and Left Strap. Refs also wear helmets.
Gloves
These are gloves that allow limited movement and has padding.
Hockey Stick
The Hockey stick is a stick with a blade at a 45-degree angle. The blade is thinner, but is taller.
Goalie Equipment
Goalies have a goalie stick, which is a stick that is thicker than a usual one on the bottom.
Goalies have a shield that goes on their helmet.
They also have a blocker glove, which is a glove with a rectangle that allows him to block pucks. Their other glove is a trapper glove, which has a net for trapping the puck.
