The Pandora's Box of JetPunk: Project Intraquiz
I had this idea last night while I was preparing to go to sleep. I had just eaten a bunch of ice cream and it was about 10:00 PM, so I was a mix of hyperactive and tired. I began dreaming about the biggest project in JetPunk's history, and how I could create it. I remembered my infamous second blog, which was extremely terrible. You may know it for its controversy. If you are unaware, it was a blog post that I would say was about 40-60% plagiarism. Different accounts put the number at different estimates. It is now deleted, and I have been thinking about revisiting it. This blog is basically a better version of that one, made by a much more experienced user than I was last year.
The Backstory
It is no secret that the content of JetPunk's quizzes, blogs, and charts favor the Western World-in particular, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States. This is absolutely not a surprise. The vast majority of the site's userbase is from these regions. People will make quizzes about the places they are from, or know a lot about. It should also be mentioned that there does not seem to be any point to making obscure quizzes-the majority of users do not know much about the places, and will not enjoy the quiz. But what if we could change that?
Project Intraquiz
Project Intraquiz is an idea that I recently thought of to expand the variety and library of user-created quizzes on JetPunk. It has some distinct goals for the short, medium, and long term.
Short Term Goals
For Each Country
-Country By Picture
-Country A-Z
-History of Country Quiz
-Geography of Country Quiz
-Politics of Country Quiz
Medium Term Goals
For Each First Level Subdivision
-General Trivia Quiz
-Second Level Subdivisions Within
-Biggest Cities in Subdivision
For Each Country
-Flags of First Level Subdivisions
-Second Level Subdivisions of Country
-Foreign Policy of Country
-First Level Subdivisions by Picture
Long Term Goals
For Each First Level Subdivision
-Second Level Subdivisions by Picture
-Flags of Second-Level Subdivisions
-History of Subdivision
-Subdivision A-Z
-Subdivision by Picture
For Each Second Level Subdivision
-General Trivia Quiz
-Biggest Cities Within
-Subdivision A-Z
-Subdivision by Picture
How Can Users Help?
If anybody else wants to sacrifice their sanity to this project, I would be grateful. This will take years, but I warned you that it was Pandora's Box. (Both in the sense of the myth and my nickname.) Anyways, a few of these quizzes already exist. One of the biggest problems we will run into in this project will most likely be a lack of information and/or pictures. By the time we get around to this, the Internet may very well have changed, which could make it easier. I would also like any willing person to potentially make a list of all quizzes that need to be made, so we can easily keep track and not have 50 different "Queens County A-Z" quizzes or something.
What Can JetPunk Do?
If the administrators of the site want to help, I will take this time to request an update to the tags feature, with a tag for each first-level subdivision. If this project becomes a success, a dedicated section of the site to it would be appreciated.
Conclusion
There is an enormous chance that this will be a colossal failure. As I wrap up this blog, I am scared to even post it, wondering what will happen. I may become the laughingstock of the site for my insane goals, but their is a tiny chance that we can turn this seed into a thriving flower. Regardless, we will either have fun or lose our sanity. See you next time.
Discord Server
A quick update. I have created a Discord channel, per the suggestion, for the organization of Project Intraquiz. Find it here. Happy quizzing!
But also, the country trivia quizzes were generally regarded as a failure, as they're some of the least taken featured quizzes in every language. They were meant to boost traffic and provide new users something to come back for daily - it didn't work.
But that shouldn't stop you from trying! I hope you'll be more motivated to commit to the goals :)
I still like this idea though, it would be so cool to have such comprehensive coverage of everywhere in quizzes!
also what about intermediate subdivisions and simultaneous 1st-and-2nd level subdivisions.
for example, germany is divided into districts (2nd level) but 4 of the 16 states have intermediate subdivisions (regierungsbezirke) which are above the districts and below the states, so technically the regierungsbezirke would be 2nd level subdivisions where they exist. even more complicated is canada
and in some countries, 1st level subdivisions also act as 2nd level subdivisions (berlin, washington dc, australian capital territory, brasilia for example). i'm guessing for the "2nd level subdivisions by 1st level subdivision", the next level of subdivision would be used (DC wards, Berlin boroughs, Brasilia administrative regions)
and a big problem will be the 3 quizzes per day limit. ofc you can always just create alt accounts to post the quizzes but im not sure if qm likes seeing that on his site
