A New JetPunk Minigame
First published: Sunday October 25th, 2020
After recently trying to learn flags and shapes of countries better, I found that it was difficult to do so for me when the answers weren't multiple choice. The quizzes Random Flag to Country and Random Shape to Country are good for learning, but they lack the helpfulness of having all the possible answers listed, and simply being able to "match" them, instead of typing the answers.
After looking around online for a resource, I found that there wasn't one I liked enough to help me. So instead, I shifted my schedule and planned to spend the weekend making a minigame that would allow me to learn these flags and shapes more easily. And so, after a couple days dedicated to it, Geography Snap was born!
In Geography Snap, you have many options in how you play the game, including simply matching identical country shapes together, matching flags with their country names, or even matching random assortments of flags, shapes and country names. You also have the option of the board size to play with, or rather the number of pairs shown. This can be either 10, 15 or the maximum of 20 pairs. Scaling with this is the difficulty of the flags possible, with the 5x4 grid showing the easiest flags / shapes, and the 5x8 grid showing any flag or shape of any of the 196 countries recognised on JetPunk.
As with Even Split, also created by me just 8 months ago, there is a leaderboard with the best scores (times) of logged in users. This leaderboard updates daily, so you can be sure to top the board each day. In addition, you can also see your score history which should aid in the learning and development of your flag and shape knowledge, as you can see how you've progressed over time.
I hope you enjoy Snap as much as I enjoyed making it, as well as find it useful and educational of course.
