JetPunk 2022 - Year in Review
First published: Thursday December 22nd, 2022
Overview
Another year bites the dust, but just before we send off 2022, we evaluate how the year went on JetPunk. Not only did JetPunk thrive with a sudden influx of new users and traffic earlier in the year, but we continued to have a steady flow of innovation year-round.
In each section below, we detail the various changes on JetPunk over the year, including highlights from some of the biggest quizzes created this year, users who joined us this year and also the most popular blogs of the year. At the end, we look at the traffic in 2022, and what we might look forward to in 2023.
New Features
2022 saw the advancement of many different areas of JetPunk - including a brand new quiz type! Read all about the 4 major changes in the sections below.
JetPunk Daily Word Search
By far the biggest update, was the creation of JetPunk Daily Word Search. This newest minigame brings a brand new word search grid every single day at Midnight EST. With varying themes, and different features, for example Picture Thursday and Cryptic Sunday, this has become JetPunk's most popular minigame ever, in just 11 months!
As we approached November, we saw the inclusion of Hexagonal grids as well. I can confirm that as of December 22nd, Word Search has been played over 1 million times! And also over 130,000 unique people have played it at some point. Rather impressive stats! Below you can see the top 5 users by total words found in the grid (including 3 users with 100% found in every single grid so far).
Rank | User | Score |
---|---|---|
1 | MiaTheGoose | 5951 |
Stewart | ||
Vicky | ||
4 | Simon1006 | 5947 |
5 | Kesa1979 | 5944 |
Also, keep an eye out for the December round-up blog coming January 1st, where a big announcment will be made regarding Word Search!
Click Quizzes
Another major change this year was the addition of a brand new quiz type: Click Quizzes!
This type requires users to select the corresponding bubble to the displayed prompt. This may be unique one-to-one pairings, or re-using answers. Some great quizzes have already been created using this new format, and I'm sure many more will come in the future. There may also be brand new features to come on this format!
Some of my favourite quizzes in this format are:
Click the Movie Title Ending - by overtired
Click the Synonym - by Quizmaster
Word Addition Click Quiz - by overtired (again...)
Do You Have A Good Verbal Memory? - by MDawg396
Notifications
A very recent addition, having only been added within the past month or so, was the overhaul of notifications on JetPunk. Previously, you could see comments you received on your content, and also see friend requests and group requests, however you could not tell when these were accepted for example.
Well, now there is a centralized Notification Center with notifications on a whole suite of things (so far), including:
- Comments on your quizzes, blogs and charts
- Friend requests received, and also those who have accepted yours
- Group invites received and accepted
- New quiz or blog created or updated by someone you subscribe to
- New quiz or blog created or updated from one of your JetPunk friends
- Quiz approved (for newer users before auto-approval)
- Quiz was reset and you have lost points
- You have earned a Spotlight award
- One of your quizzes has been spotlighted with the date it will appear on the front page
As well as this, you can easily toggle many of them off in the Manage Notifications page (accessible from Notifications page or Your Account page). You can also toggle off individual friends from the Friends and Groups page.
Navigation Update
One of the earlier changes this year was the overhaul to the Navigation menus on JetPunk. Previously, they were somewhat cluttered and confusing, resulting in limitations when we would want to add new pages. Now, with menus and submenus, it is much easier to navigate and also to add new pages as and when we'd like to!
Despite these major changes, there were many smaller changes that didn't make the cut in this end-of-year review, such as French Quotes & Facts, Total Stats page, Bar Charts and more! Thankfully, they're all documented on JetPunk's Change Log for you to enjoy.
Top Quizzes
In 2022, it seems the output of quizzes was incredibly varied, with no over-arching theme across the top 20. And so, to ensure variety and fairness, we once again will limit the following top 5 to a maximum of 1 per user (they are still all in the overall top 10).

So far over 72,000 quizzes have been released on JetPunk in 2022, that's 12,000 more than last year, and these have amounted to over 8.3 million takes! (Increase of 1.1m from last year).
This also represents over 1.3% of all takes on JetPunk ever, or, perhaps more helpfully, about 5% of all takes this year! This is quite a bit down from last year's 8%, but that can be attributed to the massive spike in traffic we had earlier this year, constituting to the fact that over 168 million takes have been added this year, or rather 26% (yes, TWENTY-SIX percent) of all takes ever, have come from 2022. That's pretty insane, in my opinion.
Top New Quiztakers
Once again, we will highlight the top quiztakers this year, and in fact two users managed to achieve a very impressive 90+ total level over the year! The top 5 all have a total level of 76 or more, and their achievement is very very impressive.

As we progress, more and more quizzes are featured and so it becomes technically easier to achieve a high level. That said, to dedicate so much playtime to JetPunk every day is a truly incredible feat.
Top New Quizmakers
This year sees the return of the top quizmakers of the year. Most interestingly, the top quizmaker this year was not even from English quizzes! In fact the top 5 comprise of 4 different languages, which is very impressive given the usual domination of English across the site.

Top Blogs
Once again, we also bring you the most liked blogs on JetPunk that were released this year. There is great variety here, and perhaps your next blog to read could be found here!

How Random is the JetPunk Randomizer?

There were far more than these 3 though, they were just the top ones by user over 30 likes. Overall, over 500 blogs were submitted this year, with only ~7,500 comments combined across all of them and over 2500 likes. Unfortunately, all of which is down on last year. However, I believe this is a trend towards fewer "spam" blogs now, and the "hype" of blogs has died down, after the rush post-Blog Update last year.
Traffic in 2022
Looking back over the traffic of 2022, we can see clear changes in the fluctuations over the year of quizzes created and number of users that joined JetPunk.
Analysing this, we see that the number of users that joined JetPunk doesn't correlate to the number of quizzes released. However, there was a massive influx of new users starting towards mid-February, peaking in April and then tapering down afterwards.
Comparing to 2021 below, this is a massive difference! Especially when you consider 2021 never got much above 3000 new users in a week, and 2022 eclipsed 10,000! And actually, hasn't been under 3000 since January - a very promising year ahead indeed.
Looking to 2023
While we did not foresee the massive influx of traffic in the first half of the year, many of the changes made this year had been in development (or at least conceptual stage) before 2022. But that does not mean that these changes were surprising to users! Some users predicted some things correctly, while others were way off the mark. See below a selection of predictions and how they turned out.
MG17 - He predicted Blogs would "takeover", new minigames, new types of charts and user avatars. Well... Bar Charts were added this year, and also Word Search and new Snap game modes. So he got some things right, but actually the opposite happened for blogs.
Well... actually only a single person made some prediction in the comments last year. So once again, thank you to MG17 for making predictions each year. And I really hope others will make some too this year! :)
My predictions for next year include a new blog component, a big change to word search, and a change to how the picture library looks when adding/selecting thumbnails/pictures for a quiz.
What stood out in 2022 to you on JetPunk? What future developments would you like to see in 2023 and beyond? What do you plan to do to improve JetPunk yourself?
All data on this page is correct as of December 22nd, 2022. Data from JetPunk and Google Analytics.
From the bottom of my heart, I just wanted to say thank you for welcoming new users to the site, thank you for this amazing community, thank you for sharing knowledge by quzimaking, by blogging, or even by "charting". I'm proud to be part of JetPunk, and for being beloved and recognized by that by many people, although I wasn't that productive this year.
#GoJetpunking
dont ban me plzzzzAnd you are very much welcome, and thank you for being an active and engaging part of this community!
We are not completely sure on the reason for the growth, but we suspect a lot of traffic came from TikTok.
And talking about
TicTac, could we have the same feature for Instagram Reels or YouTube videos and shorts for next yearor even this year?Oh, and I still want lists for blogs ;) Completely forgot about that
I hope to work more on blogs this year, especially after adding Subheadings I realise I quite enjoy it :)
#JetPunkForever
I didn't even hope to bepart of the top quizzes of the year ranking, that's a huge achievment for me. Publishing the quiz on the 1st of January probably helped a bit too.
Predictions? Hmm... The major change for the DWS seems to be pretty obvious
since it's literally announced in this blog. To be more original, I would say a new peak for our Polish friends, and more interesting facts for the French anecdotes. Oh, and why note twice as much French blogs as this year: a true challenge, but I hope doable.Once again thank you my dear Stewart, and bonnes fêtes de fin d'année à tous!
it was good to be unique in predictions while that lasted...as a brazilian, thank you for that reminderI predict that JetPunk will become the #1 website everywhere as everyone flocks here once Twitter implodes /s
Among the many new features, the excellent DWS, the notification system as well as the addition of filters to take the quizzes randomly (even if this point has not been mentioned here) really delighted me!
Thank you for providing us with all this information year after year and keep making JetPunk so fun and instructive.
My predictions for 2023: a big change in the nominations system and an overhaul of the Front Page structure.
My prediction is that there'll be more places where JetPunk goes viral in particular, like France and Poland already did, maybe more in Europe and Latin America
plz india thoIf that happens, there'll also probably be a language revolution, many users will make quizzes in their own languages and try to get creative attracting more people to take quizzes in those languages
i'm definitely doing thatI think there'll be a new wave of bloggers making more frequent blogs like us Quad members last year
except mg ig, while that wave's members last year who are still blogging will make less frequent and longer blogs next year.Exactly 🤗
I just have to wait 6 months ;-;. Thank you for keeping JetPunk live and adding new features! Happy Holidays for you all!Have there been any specific things you, as a newer user of the site, would like to see? Or perhaps anything that's been problematic for you?
Welcome back, Antônio :)
It’s Giovanni for you, dork lolwe dont talk about the reasons why- Increase in blogging, but not massively
- 'Like' feature added to Interesting Facts, or something of the sort
- Jeppy will get even more holiday costumes, such as a pilgrim hat for Thanksgiving or a scary mask on Halloween
- Major change to nominations system
- At least two new quiz formats
- New JetPunk chart formats
One prediction: Jeppy will be redesigned.
(Well, that and the occasional one where all the words to find were nonsensical to me! 🤣)
And for the predictions, I think a new minigame would be released by mid-2023 and changes/additions to the blog and quiz editors.
And me reaching the top 5 for DWSBtw happy new year to all Jetpunkers!
You can also hover on any user's name in the comments to see a little popup and how many years they have been on JetPunk. (E.g. for you it says 6 years)
I predict that JetPunk will have a very good 2023 numbers wise, and personally that I will achieve my second featured quiz within 2023.
Great blog!
As for 2023, I think a new minigame will come up, more optimizations will be done and something like a leaderboard might come up for quizzes !
As for my predictions:
- Level 50 will be possible in Dutch
- 900,000 trees planted
- Something will replace the DWS after #365
Tree counter below 1M but above 850k
Search bar improved (hopefully)
I still have no featured quizzes
Cyprus still on Countries of Europe quiz
One new featured language
Word searches added as a playable minigame the day after they leave the front page. eg there would be a kind of list of wordsearches to choose from to play, plus one live on the frontpage
One or more new badges
My quizmaker rank increases
- Word Search tops 2.5m total takes (i.e. 1.5m takes in 2023 alone)
- New quiz type
- New minigame
- More and more users joining
- Something will beat COTW on one particular day in terms of daily takes
