Absolutely floored by the fact that 70% got the answer to 9 right...granted it's 17 mins after midnight so maybe all the geniuses are awake at this hour...
I would say that Jacques Cousteau is fairly well known in the US if you're a >C+ student.
You may have heard of him when James Cameron's ocean exploration was discussed. Or via the movie, "The Life Aquatic". His ship, the Calypso, is a memorable name. He is probably "the" most famous or biggest household name regarding nautical exploration from 1970-2010? (whenever Cameron entered the zeitgeist. & I guess Cameron's been to the Titanic 33x??). I assume Costeau would be the go-to for a picture + blurb in a K-8 textbook when discussing ocean ecology etc. Maybe he's more of a Gen X or baby boomer figure. Maybe he was part of the "save the ozone layer/ocean/reduce/reuse/recycle" state-sponsored propaganda campaign of the 80's/90's.
The Jane Goodall of ocean voyaging. Probably less familiar than Goodall to a layman.
You'd probably remember Glomar Explorer, Exxon Valdez, Cousteau, maybe Kon Tiki, maybe some offshore oil drilling incidents.
He was a household name in New Zealand in the 80s & 90s. Like David Attenborough for the ocean. I didn’t actually know he invented scuba gear but since he was the ocean guy, the answer was obvious to me.
Pretty much the greatest britpop band of the 90's. They also reunite from time to time, and released an awesome album last year called 'The Ballad of Darren'.
If you're American you might be mostly familiar with their hit 'Song 2' - or as many people know it, "the woooohoooo song".
Damon Albarn is also famous for being the man behind Gorillaz.
8/10, and feel so dumb because I tripped on the Sun question (I knew it was plasma, but I thought, what if it's a trick question and I'm supposed to say gas?) and the island one (no excuse there).

Then you just have to assume "scuba"
"Jacques Cousteau, here to spit flow
Invented SCUBA, captained the Calypso"
