always annoys me when people bring up the banana-potassium connection, because although they do contain potassium, it's in low quantities, and much lower than in broccoli, raisins, leafy greens, and in fact most other fruit and veg. The reason they have such a reputation is because of a campaign involving textbook companies to market them as a health food to justify the annexation of "banana republics" by the US (a complicated story)

Unless you consider guava, passion fruit, kiwi, pomelo, loquats, apricots, and peaches, to be more commonly available to the masses. Orange juice & cantaloupe would be other, lesser-priced, contenders
