I randomly looked up noise pop because I liked the song Rill Rill by Sleigh Bells, and Wikipedia links eventually got me to shoegaze music. Funny how randomly knowledge is accrued.
Not a good day for me, just 5/10. I missed 1, 5, 6, 8 & 10. I had a feeling about otters holding hands but was put off by "sea" for some reason. Was deciding between blue and white for the stars and went for white cos of "white hot". Never even heard of any of the music choices. Played Mario about twice in my life, so just picked the obvious Dino. Went for Phoenician.
Quite proud of my 10/10 today because, from the stats, it looks like a few of these were quite difficult! Knew shoegaze from a black metal band someone showed me recently, and blue stars I remembered from my school days (I was also baffled back then that it wasn't white, because you never hear of something being "blue hot"). The Babylon question was harder; I knew it wasn't Sanskrit or Phoenecian, but did consider Aramaic for a minute, lost most of my bonus time on this one before going on the hunch that Akkad and Babylon were both in the same general region of Mesopotamia.
Nice work, I rolled through the first seven and then and just didn't know the answers to 8-10. And each one of my guesses were wrong. I forget where I knew shoegaze from but when I saw that as an answer I was comfortable hitting it.
At least the two that I missed were for wrong answers with higher percentages than the right ones. Surprised Raleigh's percentage is so low, though, as that's basic grade school history. (For Americans, I guess; I only know about the Severn from JetPunk.)
Really had no clue on questions 8-10. And I mean no clue. Missed 'em all. First three "ok, I got this". Next four, confidence growing "nice, 7 for 7". Final three questions, welcome back to earth.
The first major culture to arise in the Mesopotamian region was ancient Sumer. They likely invented the wheel and syllabic written language (cuneiform). They were eventually conquered by Sargon the Great of the Akkadian empire, who became the primary military power of the region. Akkadian became the lingua franca of the entire region for about a thousand years starting in 1500 BCE. Aramaic came in around 500 BCE.
Hmmm. That question is a little flawed. The most spoken language by common Babylonians was Aramaic in the Neo-Babylonian period, which is generally considered part of ancient Babylon. Akkadian was still around even at this time, though, so it’s the stronger answer.
Managed a 9,899, so close! 😅
Oh, but I don't know what's real
