I agree, but if you know of the curve in a katana then you surely know of the curve in a scimitar

Scimitar is not a thing. It is a 19th century made up word for any curved sword like a shamshir, a kilic or a tulwar or anything else middle eastern.

Level 65

It's been in use in English since the 16th century and it's a useful word invented to refer in a generic way to a wide array of Middle Eastern swords and some similar swords without having to specify if it is a shamshir, a tulwar, or a whatever else.

And in use since at least the 15th century in French and Italian (with spelling corresponding to those languages, cimiterre and scimitarra)

I was curious if masochism is named after a guy like sadism is. Yup! Leopold von Sacher-Masoch wrote novels that had people having sexy encounters that involved suffering, pain, and humiliation. A psychologist coined the term masochism after his writings. What a way to be remembered! 🤔
