Classic of Gladys Knight & the Pips, listen to it and you'll remember. And, oh, the robber barons of the Gilded Age....Rockefeller, Carnegie, Vanderbilt, Stanford....oil, shipping, banking, railroads....
You are correct, I was just listing names and then the big industries, not in any particular order. I should have known better than to be sloppy with the quizzer community! I think Stanford was in railroads also, at least in the west.
I would maybe remove Morgan from the question about railroad tycoons. Even though he was a banker, at one point he controlled about a sixth of American railway through his consolidation of various railway companies.
Only seen one of those films (Goonies), and that was enough for me to not want to watch it again.
That sort of film does not work when the protagonist characters are all just brats and you just want them to hurry up and die. Same, really, as, say, Blackhawk Down, but with children. I suppose the children in the Goonies at least have a slightly larger/more varied vocabulary than the blackhawk down people.
10/10 and 9,873 for me today 😁 A few I had to think about here, particularly 4 and 5, but managed to live up to the stereotype of liking trains (I'm autistic) 😂
The train one was the only one I got incorrect. Number 7 was a slight guess, spend some time lingering there. I was quite slow in general though, I knew the answers immediately (apart from the before mentioned) but I am using a,b,c,d on my keyboard and every time it took some time to remember which finger was on which letter (it is quite a stretch haha), today even more than the other times it felt like. (and of course translating the English adds some time more, that fluctuates a lot too, depending on how tired I am i guess)
So what's the trivia "in" for the French question besides just knowing French? I tried to work it out etymologically but couldn't, and I've taken French in high school and know a decent smattering of the most common words and that only led me to a 50/50 with the right answer and one of the wrong ones. Is there some extremely famous French train station in pop culture I'm missing out on?
I only got that one because I read about "Gare du Nord" somewhere a day or two ago; otherwise I definitely would have gone for Stade in the moment (despite now realising that means "stadium", which I should have known from football lol)
Hm....having children and reading children's books with them is pretty much the 'how'....like 'Little Red Riding Hood', Curious George (man with the yellow hat), etc.
Was surprised how few people know it was Gladys Knight and the Pips, true Motown magic.
Got the movie question wrong and the song question as well.
