Actually, people had every reason to expect the Spanish Inquisition. They'd send letters giving people one month's notice before taking any action, and when they arrived they'd make a formal announcement.
The Spanish Inquisition was probably one of the more expected things in old Spain 😅
2 - insects have ganglions, which are not the same as vertebrates' brains. So technically, out of the options only the cat has a brain.
4 - I've heard the garage story about Apple, Microsoft and Google. Since it's false in all cases, I'm not sure why Apple is the correct answer - except that it's the oldest one. But I guess much of my confusion on this one comes from not being American.
Yes, I picked Facebook, which was stupid, before reading all the options. But had I read them, I'd have picked Microsoft cos I've heard Bill Gates started it in his garage.
For #2, that was the logic that had me pick cockroach before reading the other options properly. However, I can see that if I'd taken the time, starfish would have been the obvious odd one out.
For #4, I actually hadn't heard that story about Google or Microsoft, so I guess I got a bit lucky there 😅 I've definitely heard it about Amazon though, and it does seem to be a common refrain in the "rags to riches" mythology.
300th quiz. Avg Score 8394, Avg correct 8.52 /10. 72 x 10/10, high 9901 2x (I clean up on animals, history, geography, Oscars; get killed on tech, video games). I have no idea how this ranks, don't really care.
Just waiting for a quiz that's all dinosaurs/electoral college/Motown/film noir...
@ultimatt not necessarily, you can care about you own score and not care about how it compares to others. And you can still want to share it, just for the sake of sharing.
Pursuant to Q2 - cat's, insects, have a bilateral symmetry, a brain so to speak, with a neural net. Jellyfish too. Starfish have radial symmetry, meaning they can regenerate when sliced up. Somebody else will explain it better. However, it is a niche question. As this was a niche 10/10 for my weird brain
Jellyfish are not bilateral, and interestingly starfish are bilateral as larvae, they evolved from bilateral organisms. Their radial symmetry as adults is almost a sort of convergent evolution with other groups like the jellyfish and sponges
They also do have a nervous system - its just not centralized (but I believe some have ganglia or eyespots)
Thanks, you clarified what I meant...I meant that jellyfish have a neural net system, not that they have a bilateral brain. I've read that jellyfish have kind of parellal neural nets that are specialzed like for swimming or finding food. Glad jellyfish wasn't an answer because I probably would have gone in that direction.
9/10 for me today, should've been a 10 but I was hasty on question 2 and went straight for cockroach before seeing that starfish was an answer 😅 Surprised by how few people know the Soylent Green reference though, I thought that was fairly established pop culture.
Wow 20% of people think that Greek is a Romance language! haha (amazing, especially given the crowd, with above average knowledge, ok perhaps more geographically orientated but still..)
7/10. For some reason I thought Bach wrote the Moonlight Sonata. I really should have known Madagascar, but I figured North Korea didn't let anything in. And I just didn't know the skin disease.
I was pleasantly surprised when my #1 LB lasted through the night, first time I'm pretty sure...I usually take in 'my' morning time & see most everyone else's score. Maybe I feel less pressure when I'm an early 🐦. The only reason I got Q10 is because I had stress-related impetigo when I was younger & figured that 'igo' had something to do with skin. I didn't know the Spanish Inquistion lasted quite that long but I did know that it was the only answer that started in the 15th century & was going strong when Father Serra was founding the California missions in the 17th century.
Surprised how many people guessed Byzantine Empire. But then I guessed Delian League, which I'd never heard of, and felt quite silly after looking it up.

Edit comment aimed at Jeg's, Frankii must have posted at the exact same time as me, it showed up simultaneously with mine
I made it to the Spanish Inquisition. Then, nothing but unexpected questions.
