9/10, I've never heard of Delft before, but it looks like the majority so far are feeling the same way

Oct 16, 2025
Haha, I'm one of the few who knows that.

I'm Dutch so that was an easy one.

The nursery rhyme is what kept me from a 10/10 today.

It is at 41% currently and it is still early.

I've heard of Delft, but never in the context of pottery.

Sigh...9/10

Exactly the same for me today, glad I'm not alone haha

That's the one I missed. But I always seem to miss the last question. I had no clue.
+1
Level 74

I was sure it was Dutch, windmills and dutch clothes are common on it and therefore must be Delft
+4
Level 65
Oct 16, 2025
7/10, took until the 7th question to notice the food utensils theme
+3

9/10. What even is Delft? Would have been my last guess on that one.

Oh well...

+2
Level 53

It's in Holland.

Technically they're correct though, Delft is in the Holland part of the Netherlands
+2
Level 53
Oct 17, 2025
I know that Holland is strictly only a part of the Netherlands but from my Dutch friends I know it's used pretty interchangeably. I don't think it's quite like referring to England when you mean UK. I am English living in Germany and I do correct people when they call Scottish or Welsh people English or say a Scottish or Welsh town is in England. 😀

Delft is to Netherlands like Talavera is to Mexico, like crystal is to Waterford, et al

Perfect analogy...love it.

Delft is a beautiful small city that you walk or cycle around with ease…the shops are filled with lots of white and blue china objects and cheese. It’s really not all that far from Amsterdam, well worth a visit.
+2
Level 66

I will put it on my list for next year

9/10 Lucky guesses. I only missed the animal question and almost went with snake.

River Plate… -.-

I thought that was morse code for some reason...
+7
Level 68

Definitely translated that to Rio de la Plata in my mind before answering
+3
Level 64
Oct 16, 2025
Yeah I had to mentally translate that to Spanish too before I got it.
+4
Level 83

I didn’t think of that at all. I thought it was a tectonic plate or something 😂
+2
Level 80
Oct 16, 2025
Totally. That's the only reason I got it right.

Level 60

It got me, my first instinct Buenos Aires then changed it to Jakarta

Level 65

Haha I do love the dishware theme but sadly that question actually doesn't fit. "Plato" is the Spanish word for plate. Meanwhile "plata" means silver. It's the river of silver, not the river plate 😂 ("Argentina" itself comes from the Latin words for "silver-bearing." "Argentum" means silver and is the reason silver is Ag on the periodic table. Come to think of it, though, the question would still fit the theme because of silverware. But it needs to be changed to say "River of Silver.")

It's called the River Plate in English. There's a pretty famous war movie about the ww2 battle (near) there.

Not all names have to be an exact translation. River Plate is the official English name, even in Argentina itself. One of Buenos Aires' largest football teams is called Club Atlético River Plate.

This came up on a quiz I made, and in researching it found that 'River Plate' is the most common name in British English, but virtually unused in American English. A google search for the term predominantly returns sites related to the Argentine football club that uses the spelling.

The other day I got horology because my kid's learning Italian; today I knew delft because my other kid learned about it in first grade in learning about the Dutch history of NYC. Finally the kids are getting helpful!

I don't like it when questions are so Anglocentric. How are people from other countries supposed to know English nursery rhymes?

Makes up for US-centric questions! This is an international site. Get a life 🤣

There was a period in the long, illustrious history of the DTQ when this was common - maybe a few months in from the start. You can work through the archive to find it.

Convinced myself the translated river name was some kind of trick. Never seen it that way before.

Missed the movie one.

No trouble with Delft, thanks to my MIL who has some nice pieces.
