Solid 10/10, 9,930

Somewhat surprised by how few knew what an armoire is, but it's early days yet so maybe those percentages will level out

I remember when I was a kid there was a commercial on TV about an a motel that saved the customer money by not having armoires.

That's how I learned what they were.

I'm not, and I guess we are many, native english speaker, so I didn't have a clue. The same goes with that nursery rhyme. So 8/10.

Armoire is actually a French word.

But in French, it is any cupboard.

This quiz is for native English speakers. It's impressive that people who don't speak English as a first language can do so well, but this quiz is not designed for you.

@Laurik, exactly the same situation here. Also non-native speaker, also 8/10 and exactly the same two mistakes.

Some people may have read it quick as armory.

Me too...this quiz seems to be aiming at a wider audience. Armoire in my head, should be way closer to 95%. Pretty standard piece of furniture for like, say, 300 years? And they got 'fancy' in hotels when they used them to put a TV on the top part, then they fell way out of fashion & ended up in thrift store.

It is not a word that comes up often in media, books, movies etc so not too well know by non-native English speakers. I have heard of the word and new roughly what it was, but was not sure what exactly went in it.

Futon for example actually comes up more often.

Plus different countries have different customs, some countries have just one word for cupboard, closet, (kitchen) cabinets, wardrobe (and armoire and even pantry etc). So a (upright) piece of furniture where you can put something in, or a small area (like 1x1) closed off with a door

That's hilarious!...🤣 There was the first men's stripper club in 1970s, Los Angeles. I was in college at USC/UCLA & clubbing was a big thing. Also the Chip 'n Dale chipmunks cartoon - both named after the furniture maker from the 18th century. Helps to be old on some of this quizzes!

Wouldn't think I'd get 10/10 on a furniture quiz - but the questions were easy due to life experience. Had or considered having most of the pieces mentioned and of course I like the Ikea experience in Brooklyn - taking their ferry, eating in the restaurant (while looking out at lower Manhattan and NY harbor) and at least I learned to say Hello in Swedish. It's 'Hej', sounds like 'Hay' to me.

10/10...quizzes of late have been up my alley, tennis, pottery/china, furnitiure, general history/science. I'm not the fastest 'clicker' tho'..BTW the original Old Mother Hubbard poem (early 1800s) is very grim (starvation). It was highly sanitized, along with many others in the UK Mother Goose Rhymes.

9,933m just below my top score...

Out of curiosity, has anyone ever got more than 996 points on a single question? What is the top all time max that someone has ever achieved, is 9960 the cap?

+3
Level 63
Oct 17, 2025
I could be wrong but I think I might've got 997 on a question or two but very rarely. I can't imagine anyone getting above 9960 without some insane luck
+4
Level 89
Oct 17, 2025
I think I've also gotten 997 on the odd question, but few enough to be able to count on one hand, in over 500 quizzes. 996 is doable on good form and with the right questions, but for that to happen for 10 questions in a row is extremely suspect imo, especially since there's usually at least one question long enough that it can't be skim-read. I could maybe see myself hitting 9950 with some really good luck (and a lot of caffeine), but even that would be pushing it. Current best is 9,939, though I've been on track for a score in the 40s two or three times but been caught out by a question.
