I was wondering recently if A's are less common. I noticed that whenever I submitted a question I was reluctant to put the answer in the A row. And if I'm going for speed I instinctively read the answers bottom to top.
We had a teacher who did this on one of our weekly vocabulary quizzes in high school. It was twenty questions, and the correct answer to each one was B. People were freaking out. (It was a rigorous school.)
The teacher told us afterwards: don't consider information outside the question you're being asked. If you think the answer to no. 8 is B, it doesn't matter if you also thought 1-7 were B. Just pick the right answer to the one you're looking at now.
When I studied for the bar exam a long time ago, one of the teachers told us that when it came to the multiple choice part of the test, if we really had no clue what the answer was, then we should choose either "b" or "c" because they were statistically more likely than "a" or "d."
Looking back years later I think that was probably b.s. (no pun intended) but only a clever way to get baffled panicky test takers to choose one of the four answers and move on rather than wasting time agonizing over the question. As Wayne Gretzky liked to say, "You miss every shot you don't take."
9918, top 10 score of all time, had to think briefly about the Mexico answer, but otherwise I was flying. I think theres going to be some amazing scores today :)
10/10/ Pretty easy test. The only one I really had to guess on was where the pumpkin was indingenous and took a second to think if the Smashing Pumpkins were the 80s or 90s.
A top 10 score with 10/10 :) could have gone much faster though. Went with the slow and steady on the wrong day... If only knew beforehand I would have gotten 10! It was nice to have an easy one though :)
I took the most time on the pumpkin origin, luckily I thought it through cause that was the one I did not know beforehand. (silly word.. used it twice in one comment! why is there no "afterhand"...)
9/10 for me today, turns out I had no idea where pumpkins were from 😅 In hindsight I should have figured it was the New World though, since Jack o lanterns used to be made with turnips. Ah well, happy Halloween everybody!
Best score ever, again! Of course, being a horror movie fan and having read every original-run Goosebumps book when I was a kid made this quite easy. I’ll likely never beat 9918, so this is my peak. 🏔️
9/10...went with the 80s for the Smashing Pumpkins but I've never liked Halloween....except one night in the UK on Guy Fawkes Day, November 5th, but close enough
@Sithraven What about fingerless gloves with one of those gel hand-warmers tucked in? Or a heated keyboard?
I was actually reading just last night that Goosebumps is the second-best-selling book series in history, behind only Harry Potter. That was quite a surprise to see.
The list in general is different than I expected. I think the Jack Reacher books are in the top ten, outselling Jack Ryan and James Bond. I'd never even heard of the Reacher books until the movie and TV show, nor do I know anyone who's read them. Diary of a Wimpy Kid is also really high. Reacher and Wimpy Kid have outsold fiction "phenomena" like the Hunger Games, Twilight, Percy Jackson, and A Song of Ice and Fire, among plenty of others I'd expected to have sold way more.

That was a good lesson. It stuck with me.

I imagine there are a lot of 10/10s today.
