Can you identify Napoleon's family origins? Of course I can.

(A joke I learned as a child. It wasn't funny then either.)

Good way to remember, I chose Elba, I think that's where he died.

Elba is where Napoleon was imprisoned first. He escaped and mounted a last ditch effort but was defeated at Waterloo and then sent to St. Helena instead, where he ended up dying.

If I'd known this joke, I would have had a 10 :/

I got 8 from not reading one question properly but my score wouldn't save for some reason. As such, I had to re-take the test which I took as a sign allowing me to guess it correctly the second time (I forced myself to get the other one wrong though). Please tell me that I was justified because I feel kind of bad about it now...

Chances are it was a momentary problem with your internet connection. It happens to me a lot, but if you wait until you have a good signal and try to load the results again, it will usually save them.

That said, I’ve had to retake quizzes and I always try to repeat the same results, but there have been a couple of times when I clicked the wrong answer by accident and allowed myself to retake it without that error. I’m not in a group though so I’m not concerned about leaderboard dishonesty or anything.

9/10, got the Maduro question wrong; figured because I hadn't heard the specific unit mentioned that it must be the obscure one, but not this time 😅

Slight factual quibble on question 5: botox injections consist of a toxin produced by the bacteria, not the bacteria themselves

+5
Level 83
Feb 10, 2026
Yeah, very true. The answer is obvious, but people definitely aren’t injecting live bacteria into their faces. Just the extremely potent neurotoxin the bacteria produces.

You got 8 of 10 correct.

Didn't know Wakanda or who kidnapped the Venezuelan.

9/10 I took French lessons for most of my youth but apparently I don’t remember any of it. In my defense I don’t eat mushrooms.

This morning I took the Italian Food Word quiz. If French and Italian are both Romance languages, why doesn’t fungo (mushroom) sound more like champignon?
+4
Level 44
Feb 10, 2026
Fungo comes from the Latin word “fungus” (very ancient and unsure origins)

Champignon comes from “champ” (field, Italian campo) and diminutive suffix -ignon, so little thing of the field.

Ethimology nerd here :)

8/10. I knew unobtanium was a made up metal, so I went with that. I was going to say delta force, but for some reason changed my mind and went with seal team 6.

The only thing more dangerous than a madman with a gun, is a madman with two guns. The only thing more dangerous than a madman with two guns, is two madmen with a gun each. The only thing more dangerous than two madmen with a gun each is two madmen, one with one gun, one with two guns. Have a good day all, and stay away from madmen with guns!

what about three madmen each with three guns?
+3
Level 58
Feb 10, 2026
A madman with three guns is no more dangerous than a madman with two. Two guns is the most a madman can carry. Madmen may be mad, but they are still men.

I don't believe actual bacteria are injected during botox treatments. It's just the toxin they produce.

I know I commented it yesterday, but the fact the quiz now just throws you into it without the countdown is very frustrating. I got the first question wrong because my mouse double clicked and it answered the question before I could even read it.

We miss Terry Pratchett. His books were great fun. Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg are my favourites.
