A grassland ecosystem found in South Africa used for pastures & farming....everybody knows that! 🤣 pampas, prairies, savanna, veld, steppes. Very fragile systems, quite in danger.

It came up recently in the daily quiz, the word Veld being similar to Feld meaning field in German and coming from Afrikaans.

Uh. Veld is field in Dutch. Which is similar to German. But Afrikaans was derived from Dutch

Q6 was a lucky guess, Q10 an elimination process since I've read answers A & B, and I don't see a person named 'Gunter' writing Ragtime. Now I'll have to read 'The Tim Drum'.....Where is the cannabis question?

Q10: I've read A and D so it was 50/50 on the other two and I had the same thought about "Ragtime" vis-a-vis Gunter.

7/10 for me. I thought steppe was in Africa not Eurasia, no idea on the Rapper and made an logic error on wheat.

Surprised the Wimbledon answer was so low, I thought everyone knew it was a lawn tennis tournament. Chose Boston because I thought that's where lots of Europeans landed. Knew Günter Grass simply from living in Germany but also because of the film, although I've never watched it. Didn't it get an oscar for best foreign film or something?

I've never seen a second of professional tennis in my life. I just guessed the one with "lawn" in the title.

Had the same thought on steppe, but that was the only one I missed, because I took a lucky guess on the rapper.

Not my fastest, but managed the 10/10, 9,856. Needed a process of elimination on the last one, and had a bit of lag on the Common

8/10. I figure China is always the first to do anything, and 1634, I should have realized Boston as opposed to New York, but oh well.

7/10 I was very excited by the theme bc I've been reading about the evolution of grass (for fun), but then there were questions about sports and Turkey and stuff! Fun fact the earliest grass may have evolved was the late Cretaceous--it didn't really spread until the Paleogene--which means a stegosaurus never stepped on grass.

It seems that you also have never stepped on grass either.
