I don't know if Google can do an area calculation, but they do look remarkably similar in size - it might come down to whether you include the internal waters of Rutland, or indeed the tide of the Isle of Wight.

It's possible that, excluding London and Bristol, Rutland is the smallest county at low tide. I'm not sure.
