The Transglobe Expedition (1979–1982) was an expedition that circumnavigated the globe using only surface transit. No big deal right? After all, Magellan did it 400 hundred years earlier. But unlike previous circumnavigations, this one circled the globe in a north/south direction. Starting in London, they followed the Prime Meridian south to the South Pole, then traveled to the North Pole and finally returned to London.

In 2007, the parliament of the Balearic Islands, an autonomous community of Spain, passed the world's first legislation that would effectively grant legal personhood rights to all great apes. No word yet on whether chimpanzees have flocked to the islands to take advantage of their legal rights.

My guess is that it was the presence of thousands of men carrying swords and guns, not the singing, which caused the panic. Their singing couldn't have been that bad.
