I am working on an upcoming quiz and I need to know, is Kingston Upon Hull considered coastal or at least 15km from the sea? I would appreciate some opinions on this topic, especially from Brits.
Hull is situated on the Humber estuary, however the estuary is over a mile wide at that point. There is a large seaport in Hull and ferries sail for the Netherlands and Belgium. I suppose it depends where the sea ends and the estuary begins. That part of the river is certainly tidal, in fact it's tidal to at least Goole that is around 50 miles inland on the River Ouse, a tributary of the Humber.
I have decided on including Hull since it technically isn't whether it's on the coast that matters, it depends on if it is on a geographic boundary i.e. where land meets sea.
Along with those reasons, I have decided to include it since all maps show the Humber Estuary, making Hull, by my definitions, on a geographic boundary.
Thanks for your help
