Longest walks you've ever taken

Submitted by Marjamjelly on May 2, 2026
Hello all,

I just took a 16 mile walk, and realized that it was rather long. So, I thought I might ask you all what the longest walks you've ever been on were. If you have taken some kind of long backpacking trip or such, I wanna know what the most distance covered in one day was.

(Now that I'm thinking, I've realized that most JetPunkers probably spend so much time inside they've forgotten what a walk is)

I walked 4 miles / 6 kilometers, that's my biggest walk as far as I remember.

Some super long walk from Tivoli to Villa Adrianna and back and up the villa

It was long but completely worth it as barely any taxis were running

I walked for 12 hours , ( including a lunch and a snack break) on one day, during a Himalayan trek, with my group. We started at 5.30 am. (There wasn’t too much climbing on that day.) . Didn’t log the distance, sadly.

I'm not sure what my furthest walk has been. I would doubt it's as long as 16 miles!

My furthest run is 15 miles, and I'm hoping I can finally be healthy enough to get in a good training block to run a marathon next year.

Ha ha :-)

My longest day was about 30 miles - can't remember exactly, but we hiked from the Glen Nevis area to a point just north of Bridge of Orchy. Up and down hills and carrying tents and supplies as well - no wonder my body was in a bad state by the end of it.

I once walked from the Nitra bus station to the summit of Mt Zobor (in Nitra, Slovakia) and back. Apparently, that's a 12.6 km (7.8 mile) round trip including the 500 metre ascent up the mountain.

I can't remember the distance, but I have spent many a day just walking around a random city in the past. often from around 10 till 5, but it wasn't continuous. I'd stop for coffee or lunch etc.

A colleague of mine runs ultra marathons, his last one was 106 miles in 25 hours. Makes me tired just thinking about it!

I walked nearly the entire length of Galveston Island once (although I took frequent breaks). That's almost thirty miles. It took a long time.

Realistically the longest amount of time I've ever spent walking is during a day at Disney World where, aside from the going on rides and taking breaks for lunch, most of the day from sunup to sundown was spent walking around the park.

I think a more memorable (and recent) experience was when I was going for a walk in my city, got lost, and spent what felt like half the day trying to figure out how to get home. Now THAT was a workout.

I took a backpacking trip in the Tetons over three days. The first day was about 10 miles because we got lost. It took pretty much the entire day because we were going up so much.
