Hi Charlize. You are mistaken. Y is a vowel in English when it makes a vowel sound. Egypt has two vowels. Otherwise, what’s making the vowel sound in the second syllable, “-gypt”?
After having a quiz of mine about vowels be featured on the front page, I have been awakened to an entire world of people who have no idea that Y is a vowel.
Sincerely,
Language nerd.
