We had a LOT of whining on this quiz from people who don't follow Formula One. Well, the whining worked.

We will now accept the country name (for example, France instead of French).

It feels wrong and I look forward to opposite direction whining.

I actually don't mind it as a quality of life change, especially as those without country names are still just as tricky to remember.

I dont mind some of the others eg miami being different to usa, but if they raced on the same bit of tarmac, it should be counted, eg sakhir and bahrain, or styrian and austrian

They ask for Grand Prix's not tracks, so I prefer it that way.

Altough it's pretty hard to guess it.

Allow me to be the first whiner of the other side. I, as a new Formula 1 fan, had a fun challenge in trying to find out more about all the different grand prix being held. Now it's just another 'Guess the country' quiz

Had to look up "70th Anniversary". Pretty weird how they had it right after the British Grand Prix so it was two races at Silverstone in a row!

During the 2020 season and because of Covid, they couldn't travel that much. So there were 2 GPs in Silverstone, 2 in Spielberg and 2 in Barhain. But they are not allowed to have twice the same name, so we got 70th anniversary, Styrian and Sakhir. Plus, 3 GPs were held in Italy on 3 different tracks (Italian, Emilia Romana and Tuscan for Monza, Imola and Mugello) and the name "German Grand Prix" is owned by Hockenheim and the GP in Germany that year was held in Nürburgring, so the GP was named Eifel GP

To avoid the whining, give some guidance in the quiz description, like "we are looking for the official name of the grand prix." This way we'll know it's not just country names!

I don't follow F1 much at all, and I was confused when I entered both USA and Las Vegas in desperation and both worked.

Quiz description is confusing as I typed in Detroit and San Marino as a joke and they worked

"70th" and "Romagna" were not good enough for 70th Anniversary and Emilia Romagna. Never mind. Good quiz.

I do follow F1 but the question should be more specific. eg. If Italy is accepted how do we know you want the regions as well. Could be a great quiz if the question and description were explained better.

It's an F1 quiz. You have to know what the Grand Prix are, not just randomly guess regions and cities.

What about Phoenix? Might be wrong

Probably not an official F1 race

The 3 Grand Prix in Phoenix were held under the name "United States Grand Prix". USA often wanted more than one GP, but you are not allowed to have twice the same name. So they went with "United States West Grand Prix", "Dallas Grand Prix", "Miami Grand Prix" and so on to have more than one. So throughout the history of formula one, 80 GPs were held in the US under 8 different names, and 15 times were there more than one race in the US during a single season.

The fact that you can be lazy and type the country makes it so annoying when I realised that I missed all the cities...

What about Zeltweg Airfield? 1963-4 in Austria, and only then, but still a circuit

I might just be ignorant or stupid, but how come Baku doesn’t work for Azerbaijani Grand Prix?

Because it held the European Grand Prix and the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, but not the Baku Grand Prix.

I think country names should be accepted for the adjective GPs - Italy for Italian, France for French etc. but why then Sao Paulo and Mexico City work? This is a giant nitpick due to contracts cities made of course, but still these are different GPs. I also find it weird that US West works for USA, I feel like it shouldn't. Good quiz anyway and I agree that Italy should not work for Emilia Romagna etc.

Really? They renamed Barcelona even though Madrid is the new GP? I call bs. I was trying all sorts of Madrid-related names, but never did I expect it to be Barcelona
+1
Level 65
Jan 25, 2026
Why is Barcelona-Catalunya counted as a separate entry to the Spanish GP, but not Sao Paulo for the Brazilian GP? Surely there should be a separate entry for the Brazilian GP considering that's what it was named pre-2021, to keep it consistent with other name changes.

Also, do count me in on the reverse whining re: country names.
