One of the most unbreakable records of all time, probably, although the most truly unbreakable ones relate to complete games since those are so rare anymore.
It was almost done in 1988. In one of the most heartbreaking moments in sports, Dave Stieb with the Toronto Blue Jays took no hitters into the ninth inning with two outs in back to back starts in September.
Totally agree it's so insane to happen, although Roki Sasaki got close threw a perfect game then next start 8 perfect innings before getting pulled. Of course this was in Japan and not MLB but still crazy.
During WWII, my dad, who played semi-pro ball after the war and later got an offer from the Braves, was in boot camp with Johnny Vander Meer in 1944 and got to face him in a game. My dad got a clean double off of him. He was always quite proud of that.
Was hoping Bird would be acceptable to Rolling Stone question but as a native Detroit I can spell his name LOL. Also perhaps a baseball related question for Williams like only person to hit .400 since 1940.
